BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.) announced today that Theodore Shapiro will be honored as a BMI Icon at the 2026 BMI Film, TV & Visual Media Awards on May 13 in Beverly Hills, CA. The Emmy Award- winning composer will be receiving this honor for his outstanding body of work in some of the most culturally defining films and TV series over the last 25 years. In addition to his music for Apple TV’s Severance, for which he received two Emmy Awards and an additional nomination for his main title theme, the composer’s scoring credits include the features The Devil Wears Prada (and its upcoming sequel), Dodgeball, 13 Going on 30, Bombshell, The Eyes of Tammy Faye, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, and, most recently, last year’s hit thriller The Housemaid.

BMI Announces Launch of Composer Lab to Foster the Next Generation of Media Composers
BMI today announced the launch of its inaugural Composer Lab, designed to provide emerging composers with a one-of-a-kind experience to foster artistic growth and professional development. Under the guidance of composer (and former director of the Sundance Film Music Program) Peter Golub, and BMI’s VP of Film, TV & Visual Media Tracy McKnight, the program will select ten composers to participate in a two-week online workshop followed by a nine-day onsite intensive in Los Angeles. Throughout the lab, participants will be advised by BMI composers including Thomas Newman, James Newton Howard, Harry Gregson-Williams, Rob Simonsen, Blake Neely, Mark Isham, Christopher Lennertz, Nathan Barr, Sean Callery, Ed Shearmur, Sherri Chung, Chanda Dancy, William Ross, Nami Melumad, Bryce Dessner, Carlos Rafael Rivera, Nami Melumad, George S Clinton, Stephanie Economou, Tony Morales, Dara Taylor, Kathryn Bostic, Fil Eisler, Kurt Farquhar, William Ross, among others to be announced.,
Atticus Ross to Be Honored as a BMI Icon at 41st Annual BMI Film, TV and Visual Media Awards
BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.) announced today that Atticus Ross will be honored as a BMI Icon at the 41st Annual BMI Film, TV and Visual Media Awards on May 14 in Beverly Hills, CA. The Academy Award- & Grammy Award- winning composer will be receiving this honor for his outstanding body of work across film and television. Ross is best known for his collaborations with Trent Reznor and their scores on such features as The Social Network, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Challengers, Gone Girl, Soul, Mank, Bones & All, Waves, Empire of Light & Queer and the TV shows Watchmen (for which they received an Emmy Award) and the Vietnam War. Alongside his brother Leopold Ross and wife Claudia Sarne, he has also composed the scores for the movies The Book of Eli and Triple 9, an episode of Black Mirror, the docuseries Dear Mama, among other projects.

Last night, Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) held its annual Film, TV & Visual Awards at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills. Brian Tyler was named BMI Icon in recognition of his exceptional body of work and phenomenal success as a composer, orchestral conductor and music producer. Tyler whose scoring credits include Avengers: Age of Ultron, Iron Man 3, multiple installments in the Fast & Furious series, Crazy Rich Asians and Yellowstone was presented the award by BMI President and CEO Mike O’Neill.
BMI: Score to Screen Panels at Sundance Film Festival Announced
BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.) has announced its programming for the 2022 Sundance Film Festival today with two virtual Score to Screen panels featuring two conversations that will give an inside look at the creative process of incorporating music in film while delving into the relationship between a composer and the film’s director or producer. Grammy and Academy Award winner Common and composer Patrick Warren (The Chi) co-produced and curated the music for the drama/thriller Alice written and directed by Krystin Ver Linden and starring Keke Palmer, Common himself, Jonny Lee Miller & Gaius Charles about a brave young woman who escapes a life of slavery on a secluded Georgia plantation, only to realize that not everything is as it seems. Today, BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc) announced its 37th annual Film, TV & Visual Media Awards celebrating the top-performing composers in film, TV and visual media of the previous year. Among the honorees, which were revealed across BMI’s social media and digital platforms, are Atli Örvarsson who received six awards for NBC’s Chicago P.D., Chicago Med and Chicago Fire, CBS’ FBI and FBI: Most Wanted, and the Apple TV+ limited series series Defending Jacob, Mark Mothersbaugh who was honored with five BMI Awards for Bravo’s Dirty John, FX’s What We Do in the Shadows, Netflix’s Tiger King and the features The Willoughbys and The Croods: A New Age, as well as Mark Isham who earned four crystals this year for his work on the movies Judas and the Black Messiah, Honest Thief, Togo and the Hulu series Little Fires Everywhere.
BMI Continues Its Support of Sundance Institute Film Music and Sound Design Lab 2020
BMI has announced its continued support of the Sundance Institute Film Music and Sound Design Lab 2020 in collaboration with Skywalker Sound. The prestigious program returns with a new reimagined digital format on Sundance Co//ab from July 27–August 14, 2020. BMI composers Aaron Parks, Ariel Marx and Jeff “Gitty” Gitelman were invited to participate along with Cora (Yi-Huan) Chung, DeAndre Allen-Toole and Sultana Isham to round out this year’s talented group of Fellows.
