David Fleming has received his first Primetime Emmy Award in the Outstanding Music Composition for a Documentary Series or Special (Original Dramatic Score) category for his score for Ron Howard’s Disney+ original documentary Jim Henson Idea Man at today’s first night of the 76th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards. He is also up for an Emmy this year in the Outstanding Music Composition for a Series (Original Dramatic Score) category for his Mr. & Mrs. Smith score. Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s Jim Henson score this past May.

Rickey Minor Wins Emmy Award for The Kennedy Center Honors
Rickey Minor has received his second Primetime Emmy Award in the Outstanding Music Direction category for his work on the 2019 Kennedy Center Honors gala at today’s second night of the 2020 Creative Arts Emmy Awards. He previously won the award in 2017 for Taking The Stage: African American Music And Stories That Changed America and received multiple other nominations in the category. Academy Awards producers Lynette Howell Taylor and Stephanie Allain today announced today that Rickey Minor will return as the music director for this year’s 92nd Oscars. He previously served in the role on last year’s show and follows composers including Bill Conti, Marc Shaiman, William Ross and Harold Wheeler who have previously been selected as music directors. Common, Robert Glasper and Karriem Riggins have received the Emmy Award for the original song Letter to the Free from Ava DuVernay’s Netflix documentary 13th in the Music & Lyrics category at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards. Common & Glasper accepted their first Emmy Award in person at the ceremony at the Microsoft Theatre LA LIVE in Downtown Los Angeles. The song was previously nominated for the Critics Choice Awards earlier this year. In the Outstanding Music Direction category, Rickey Minor was honored for his work on the ABC special Taking The Stage: African American Music and Stories That Changed America.
NBC’s ‘Mr. Robinson’ to Feature Music by Rickey Minor
Rickey Minor has been tapped to compose the music for the upcoming NBC comedy Mr. Robinson. The show is created by Robb & Mark Cullen (Back in the Game, Cop Out) and stars Craig Robinson, Ben Koldyke, Amandla Stenberg, Brandon T. Jackson, Peri Gilpin, Spencer Grammer and Tim Bagley. The series follows a man who jams in a rock band called Nasty Delicious that has been unsuccessfully trying to break out for a decade at night and also has a gig as a substitute music teacher with the Chicago School District by day. Robb and Mark Cullen are also executive producing the Universal Television and 3 Arts Entertainment production with Howard Klein (The Office, Parks and Recreation, The Mindy Project), Mark Schulman and Andy Ackerman (Seinfeld, The New Adventures of Old Christine) who also directed the pilot episode.
