David Fleming has won his second Emmy Award for his score for the episode Out History from the Apple TV original series Widow’s Bay in the Outstanding Music Composition for a Series category at tonight’s second night of the 78th Creative Prime Emmy Awards. Sean Callery received his fifth Emmy Award and Sara Barone was honored with her first Emmy in the Outstanding Music Composition for a Limited or Anthology Series, Movie or Special category for their score from the episode The Beast and Me of the Netflix limited series The Beast in Me. Dave Porter has won the Emmy Award for his theme for the Apple TV series Pluribus in the Outstanding Main Title Theme Music category.

Television Academy Announces Rule Change in Two Music Categories
The Television Academy has announced a number of rules changes for the 78th Emmy Awards competition in 2026, including two updates in the music categories. In the Outstanding Main Title Theme Music category, eligibility has been expanded to “include main-on-end themes. Both a Main Title Theme (appearing at the beginning of the program) and a Main-on-End Title Theme (appearing after the final act, before the end credits/crawl) are eligible.” In addition, the Outstanding Music Composition for a Documentary/Nonfiction or Reality Program (Original Dramatic Score) category will now allow eligibility for reality programs that contain an original dramatic score.

Theodore Shapiro has won his second Emmy Award for his score for the episode Cold Harbor from the second season of the Apple TV+ original series Severance in the Outstanding Music Composition for a Series category at tonight’s first night of the 77th Creative Prime Emmy Awards. He previously won his first Emmy for his music from Season 1 back in 2022 and was also nominated for his main title theme. Mick Giacchino received his first Emmy Award in the Outstanding Music Composition for a Limited or Anthology Series, Movie or Special category for his score from the episode After Hours of the HBO series The Penguin. Cristobal Tapia de Veer has won his fourth Emmy Award for his theme for the third season of HBO”s The White Lotus in the Outstanding Main Title Theme Music category.

The Television Academy has announced a number of rules changes for the 78th & 79th Emmy Awards competition in 2025 & 2026, including an update in the Music – Main Title Theme category for 2026. The new rules state that a “Main Title Theme must appear in 50% or more of eligible episodes submitted for the 2026 Emmy competition. The Main Title Theme has been further defined as a musical fingerprint and calling card that is identifiable and unique to a show, thereby drawing an audience in by setting the show’s tone and what is to come.”

Siddhartha Khosla has won his first Emmy Award for his score for the episode Sitzprobe from the third season of the Hulu original series Only Murders in the Building in the Outstanding Music Composition for a Series category at tonight’s second night of the 76th Creative Prime Emmy Awards. Benj Pasek, Justin Paul, Marc Shaiman & Scott Wittman received an Emmy for the song Which of the Pickwick Triplets Did It? from the same Only Murders in the Building episode. David Fleming has received his first Primetime Emmy Award in the Outstanding Music Composition for a Documentary Series or Special (Original Dramatic Score) category for his score for Ron Howard’s Disney+ original documentary Jim Henson Idea Man at today’s first night of the 76th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards. He is also up for an Emmy this year in the Outstanding Music Composition for a Series (Original Dramatic Score) category for his Mr. & Mrs. Smith score. Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s Jim Henson score this past May.
