Two new movies are opening wide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the thriller The Words written and directed by Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal and stars Bradley Cooper, Olivia Wilde, Zoe Saldana, Jeremy Irons, Dennis Quaid, Ben Barnes, John Hannah, J.K. Simmons and Nora Arnezeder. The film’s music is composed by Marcelo Zarvos (The Good Shepherd, The Door in the Floor). Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. For audio clips and the full album details, check out our soundtrack announcement. Also opening wide is the action thriller The Cold Light of Day directed by Mabrouk El Mechri and starring Henry Cavill, Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver. Spanish composer Lucas Vidal (The Raven) who has just been nominated in the Discovery of the Year category for the World Soundtrack Awards this week has composed the film’s score. Lucas Vidal Recording the Score for ‘The Cold Light of Day’

Last summer, Lucas Vidal recorded his music for the upcoming action thriller The Cold Light of Day starring Henry Cavill, Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver. The score was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London with an 80-piece orchestra. Film Music Reporter presents an exclusive video from the orchestral recording sessions, which can be checked out after the jump. The video also features interviews with the rising composer himself, as well as engineer/mixer Peter Cobin and music editor Ellen Segal. More videos are to follow. Vidal’s soundtrack for the film has been released overseas and will be coming out stateside closer to the domestic release of the movie in September (click here for the full soundtrack details). The Cold Light of Day directed by Mabrouk El Mechri opens this week in the UK and in Spain, followed by a release in other international markets over the next couple of weeks.

‘The Cold Light of Day’ Soundtrack Details

The details of the soundtrack album for the upcoming thriller The Cold Light of Day have been revealed. The album features the original score from the movie composed by Spanish composer Lucas Vidal. The soundtrack has just been released digitally in the UK. UPDATE (August 2012): The soundtrack is now also available to download in the US on Amazon. Check out audio clips from all tracks on the album below. The Cold Light of Day directed by Mabrouk El Mechri and starring Henry Cavill, Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver marks Vidal’s second high profile project to be released overseas within weeks of each other following James McTeigue’s The Raven starring John Cusack. The thriller about a man whose family is kidnapped while on vacation in Spain opens in the UK and several other international markets in April. A release in the US is scheduled for September 7, 2012.

‘Make Believe’ Soundtrack released

MuMo Record has released a soundtrack album for the documentary Make Believe. The album includes the original score by Lucas Vidal, as well as a couple of tracks by Serialmusique. For audio clips and to download the soundtrack, visit iTunes. Make Believe follows six of the world’s best young magicians as they battle for the title of Teen World Champion. The documentary is directed by J. Clay Tweel and is executive produced by Seth Gordon & Ed Cunningham (The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters). The film won the Best Documentary Award at last year’s Los Angeles Film Festival and is set to be released in theaters on May 13, 2011 in New York and two weeks later in Los Angeles.

Lucas Vidal to score ‘The Cold Light of Day’

Film Music Reporter has learned that Lucas Vidal has been hired to score the upcoming action thriller The Cold Light of Day. In the movie, a young American uncovers a conspiracy during his attempt to save his family, who were kidnapped while on vacation in Spain. The movie directed by Mabrouk El Mechri (JCVD) stars Bruce Willis, Sigourney Weaver and Henry Cavill. The movie, which is currently in post-production marks the first big budget feature for the Spanish composer. Summit Entertainment is planning a 2011 release.
