Danny Elfman & Chris Bacon have been tapped to score the upcoming sci-fi comedy Men in Black: International. The film is directed by F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton, The Italian Job) and stars Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Rebecca Ferguson, Kumail Nanjiani, Rafe Spall, Laurent Bourgeois, Larry Bourgeois, Emma Thompson and Liam Neeson. The movie follows the title characters as they tackle their biggest, most global threat to date: a mole in the Men in Black organization. Art Marcum & Matt Holloway (Iron Man) wrote the screenplay.

Five new movies are opening in theaters nationwide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the sci-fi action adventure Pacific Rim Uprising directed by Steven S. DeKnight and starring John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Jing Tian, Cailee Spaeny, Rinko Kikuchi, Burn Gorman, Adria Arjona and Charlie Day. The film’s original music is composed by Lorne Balfe (The LEGO Batman Movie, Home, 12 Strong, Terminator Genisys, Genius, The Crown). Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as songs by Wizkid, DJ Shadow and Anderson .Paak. Click here for the full album details.
Also opening wide is the animated feature Sherlock Gnomes directed by John Stevenson and featuring the voices of James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Maggie Smith, Michael Caine, Ashley Jensen, Matt Lucas, Stephen Merchant, Mary J. Blige and Johnny Depp. Chris Bacon (Source Code, Bates Motel) who previously co-scored Gnomeo & Juliet has composed the film’s original score. Elton John has composed new songs for the project, including the track Stronger Than I Ever Was, which is performed by Mary J. Blige. No word yet on a soundtrack release.

Premiering on Friday, August 25, is the Amazon original series The Tick created by Ben Edlund based on his own comic book series and starring Peter Serafinowicz, Griffin Newman, Jackie Earle Haley, Valorie Curry, Yara Martinez and Brendan Hine. Also premiering on Friday is the Netflix original series Disjointed created by Chuck Lorre & David Javerbaum and starring Kathy Bates, Dougie Baldwin, Elizabeth Ho, Elizabeth Alderfer, Aaron Moten and Tone Bell. Joseph LoDuca (The Evil Death, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Xena: Warrior Princess, Ash vs. Evil Dead) is composing the show’s original music. Chris Bacon to Return for ‘Sherlock Gnomes’
Chris Bacon has been tapped to score the upcoming animated feature Sherlock Gnomes. The film directed by John Stevenson (Kung Fu Panda) is the sequel to 2011’s Gnomeo & Juliet, which the composer co-scored with James Newton Howard. The movie’s voice cast includes Johnny Depp who lends his voice to the title character, as well as James McAvoy and Emily Blunt who reprise their characters from the original movie. The sequel follows Gnomeo & Juliet as they recruit renown detective, Sherlock Gnomes, to investigate the mysterious disappearance of other garden ornaments.

Soundtrack Album for ABC’s ‘When We Rise’ Announced
Hollywood Records will release a soundtrack album for the ABC mini-series When We Rise. The album features a selection of cover songs from the 8-hour event by such artists as Jordan Fisher, Fancy, Brandi Carlile and Zella Day. Also included is a suite from the drama’s original score composed by Danny Elfman (Spider-Man, Batman, Alice in Wonderland) and Chris Bacon (Source Code, Bates Motel). The soundtrack will be released digitally on February 24, 2017 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Netflix Premieres ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’ Theme Song
Netflix has published the main titles sequence for its new original series A Series of Unfortunate Events. The title song is performed by Neil Patrick Harris, written by Nick Urata and features lyrics by Daniel Handler aka Lemony Snicket. Check out the full titles sequence after the jump. James Newton Howard has composed the music for the show’s first episodes and Chris Bacon is credited as the composer on several subsequent episodes. Urata was originally set to score the full season as reported last year. A Series of Unfortunate Events is based on the book series by Snicket and stars Neil Patrick Harris, Malina Weissman, Louis Hynes, Aasif Mandvi, K. Todd Freeman and Patrick Warbutton as Snicket himself.
Chris Bacon to Score Jonathan Levine’s Untitled ‘Mother/Daughter’ Movie
Chris Bacon has been hired to score Jonathan Levine’s untitled Mother/Daughter comedy. The film directed by Levine (50/50, Warm Bodies, The Night Before) stars Amy Schumer, Goldie Hawn, Christopher Meloni, Ike Barinholtz, Oscar Jaenada and Wanda Sykes. No plot details have been revealed yet. Katie Dippold (Ghostbusters, The Heat) has written the screenplay with Schumer and Kim Caramele (Inside Amy Schumer). Peter Chernin (Rise/Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Oblivion) and Jenno Topping (Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, St. Vincent) are producing the project with Paul Feig (Bridesmaids) and Jessie Henderson (Spy).
