Lakeshore Records has announced a new soundtrack album for the A&E original series Bates Motel. The album features selections from the show’s original music composed by Chris Bacon (Source Code, Gnomeo & Juliet, Alpha and Omega, Smash). Varese Sarabande has previously released a soundtrack album featuring selections of the composer’s score from the first two seasons. Chris Bacon to Score ABC’s ‘When We Rise’
Chris Bacon has revealed in a recent interview with TV Goodness that he is currently scoring the upcoming ABC mini-series When We Rise. The show is created by Dustin Lance Black (Milk, J. Edgar) and stars Guy Pearce, Mary Louise Parker, Rosie O’Donnell, Michael K. Williams, Whoopi Goldberg, Rachel Griffiths, Dylan Walsh, Kevin McHale and Ivory Aquino. The period drama tells the history of the gay rights movement, starting with the Stonewall Riots in 1969. Black is also executive producing the ABC Studios production with Larry Mark (Jerry Maguire, I, Robot) and Bruce Cohen (American Beauty, Silver Linings Playbook, Big Fish). Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting, Milk) is directing the first two episodes and Black, Dee Rees (Bessie, Pariah) and Thomas Schlamme (The West Wing) are directing the other episodes of the 8-part series.
Amazon’s ‘The Tick’ to Feature Music by Chris Bacon
Chris Bacon has composed the music for the pilot of the upcoming Amazon original series The Tick. The show is created by Ben Edlund (Supernatural, Titan A.E.) based on his own comic book series and stars Peter Serafinowicz, Griffin Newman, Jackie Earle Haley, Valorie Curry, Yara Martinez and Brendan Hine. The superhero comedy follows an underdog accountant with zero powers in a city owned by a global villain who was thought to be dead. Edlund is also executive producing the Sony Pictures Television production with Barry Josephson (Enchanted, Bones, The Ladykillers) and Barry Sonnenfeld (Men in Black, Get Shorty).

The only movie opening nationwide this weekend is Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War directed by Anthony & Joe Russo and starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Paul Bettany, Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie, Don Cheadle, Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Rudd. The film’s original music is composed by Henry Jackman (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, X-Men: First Class, Wreck-It-Ralph, Big Hero 6). Already playing in limited release since this past Wednesday is the dramatic thriller A Bigger Splash directed by Luca Guadagino and starring Tilda Swinton, Ralph Fiennes, Matthias Schoenaerts and Dakota Johnson. The film doesn’t feature an original score. Decca Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the movie by The Rolling Stones, Captain Beefheart, Robert Mitchum, Chrisma, Nilsson, Popol Vuh & more. Chris Bacon Scoring Rob Reiner’s ‘Being Charlie’
Chris Bacon is currently recording his score for Rob Reiner’s upcoming drama Being Charlie. The movie follows an 18-year-old who breaks out of a youth drug treatment clinic, but when he returns home to Los Angeles, he’s given an intervention by his parents and forced to go to an adult rehab. The film stars Nick Robinson, Morgan Saylor, Common, Devon Bostick, Susan Misner, Ricardo Chavira and Cary Elwes. Reiner is also producing the project with Simon Goldberg through their Castle Rock Entertainment company, alongside Johnson Chan and Stephanie Rennie. The director’s son Nick Reiner wrote the screenplay with Matt Elisofon.
‘The Character of Music’ Panel at 2014 Comic-Con Announced
The line-up for this year’s The Character of Music panel at Comic-Con in San Diego has been announced. A number of composers and producers will discuss the dynamics of music in film and television. Panelists include composer Chris Bacon and producer Christopher Nelson (Bates Motel), composer Paul Haslinger and Halt and Catch Fire creator/executive producer Christopher C. Rogers and Danny Jacob and Phineas & Ferb creators/executive producers Dan Povenmire & Jeff “Swampy” Marsh. The participants will discuss their working relationship, how music plays a character in their stories and the intense process of scoring their projects. BMI Director, Film/TV Relations Anne Cecere will serve as panel moderator. The event will take place on Friday, July 25 at 2:00pm in Room 32AB of the San Diego Convention Center.

Chris Bacon has been hired to score A&E Network’s upcoming TV series Bates Motel. The show is a contemporary prequel to Alfred Hitchcock’s classic movie Psycho and chronicles how Norman Bates’ psyche unravels through his teenage years. Freddie Highmore stars as Norman Bates and Vera Farmiga plays his mother Norma. Max Thieriot, Olivia Cooke, Nicola Peltz, Nestor Carbonell and Mike Vogel are co-starring. Carlton Cuse (Lost) and Kerry Ehrin (Friday Night Lights) are executive producing the Universal Television production. Bates Motel is set to premiere on March 18, 2013 on A&E. The first season of ten episodes will be airing every Monday night.
