A soundtrack album for the drama Atlas Shrugged: Part II has recently been released digitally. The album features the film’s score composed by Chris Bacon (Source Code, Gnomeo & Juliet). The album is now available digitally on Amazon. Audio clips can be checked out after the jump. Atlas Shrugged: Part II directed by John Putch is the second part in a proposed trilogy adapting Ayn Rand’s 1957 classic novel and stars Samantha Mathis, Jason Beghe and Esai Morales. The movie opened in theaters this past October and will be released on BluRay and DVD later this year.

Weekly Film Music Roundup (November 2, 2012)
Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the animated feature Wreck-It-Ralph directed by Rich Moore and featuring the voice talent of John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer and Jane Lynch. The film’s score is composed by Henry Jackman (X-Men: First Class). Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the score, as well as one track by Skrillex who wrote some of the in-game music and other songs featured in the film. Attached to the film is the animated short Paperman, which features an original score by Christophe Beck.
Also opening wide is the drama director Robert Zemeckis and starring Denzel Washington, Kelly Reilly, Don Cheadle, Bruce Greenwood, John Goodman, Melissa Leo and James Badge Dale. The director’s regular musical collaborator Alan Silvestri (Back to the Future, The Avengers) has composed the film’s original score. Five new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the political thriller Argo directed by Ben Affleck who also stars in the film with Alan Arkin, John Goodman, Bryan Cranston, Victor Garber, Tate Donavan, Clea DuVall, Scoot McNairy, Rory Cochran, Christopher Denham, Chris Messina and Kyle Chandler. The film’s music is composed by Alexandre Desplat (The King’s Speech, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. Also opening wide is the horror thriller Sinister directed by Scott Derrickson and starring Ethan Hawke, Juliet Rylance, Fred Dalton Thompson, James Ransone, Clare Foley and Vincent D’Onofrio. Christopher Young (Hellraiser, Spider-Man 3) has composed the film’s score. A soundtrack album featuring Young’s music is now available digitally and will be released on CD on October 30. ‘High Ground’ Soundtrack Details
Varese Sarabande has revealed the soundtrack details for the documentary High Ground. The album features the film’s original score composed by Chris Bacon (Source Code, Gnomeo and Juliet). The soundtrack will be released digitally on July 31, 2012. Audio clips can be checked out below. High Ground directed by Michael Brown and produced by Don Hahn (The Lion King) tells the true story of eleven wounded veterans whose road to recovery takes them to the top of a Himalayan giant on a journey to heal the wounds of war. The documentary has been picked up by Red Flag Releasing for a domestic theatrical release on November 2, 2012.
Chris Bacon to Score ‘Atlas Shrugged: Part 2 – Either-Or’
Chris Bacon has been hired to score the upcoming drama Atlas Shrugged: Part 2 – Either-Or. The film directed by John Putch is the second installment in a proposed trilogy adapting Ayn Rand’s 1957 classic novel. The movie features an all new cast including Samantha Mathis as the heroine Dagny Taggart, Jason Beghe as Henry Rearden and Esai Morales as Francisco d’Anconia. The film’s story is said to continue right where the first part in the series left off. John Aglialoro and Harmon Kaslow are producing the project. Duncan Scott who produced the 1986 version of the Rand film adaptation of We the Living has joined the drama’s production team. The first part in the trilogy, which opened in theaters in the spring of 2011 featured an original score by Elia Cmiral. Atlas Shrugged: Part 2 – Either-Or is set to be released this fall.
Chris Bacon to Score NBC’s ‘Smash’
Chris Bacon has been chosen by Smash executive producer and composer Marc Shaiman to write the underscore for this season’s remaining episodes of the musical show. Shaiman has written the series’ underscore himself for the first six episodes and Bacon has taken over scoring duties with episode 7 (The Workshop), which premiered last night. Shaiman and Scott Wittman continue to write the show’s original songs. Since our last update, several new songs have been released digitally, including the Shaiman- & Wittman-penned original songs The 20th Century Fox Mambo (performed by Katherine McPhee), I Never Met a Wolf Who Didn’t Love to Howl (performed by Megan Hilty), Mr. & Mrs. Smith (performed by Hilty and Will Chase), Let’s Be Bad (performed by Hilty) and History Is Made at Night (performed by Hilty and Chase), as well cover versions of It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World (performed by McPhee), A Song for You (performed by Chase), Crazy Dreams (performed by Hilty), Call Me (performed by McPhee), Grenade (performed by Chase) and I Haven’t Met You Yet (performed by Nick Jones).
Composers on TNT’s Mystery Movie Night
TNT is launching the Mystery Movie Night, a series of contemporary crime dramas, based on popular novels. The first six movies that are premiering in the next few weeks have some notable composers working on the music for the films. Airing tommorow, November 30 is the mystery drama Ricochet based on a novel by Sandra Brown and starring John Corbett, Gary Cole, Julie Benz and Kelly Overton. The movie centers on two homicide detectives find their careers and lives on the line when they get caught up in a case of murder and betrayal in high-society Savannah. Nick Gomez (Dexter, Drowning Mona) is directing and Howard Braunstein (The Informant!) and Jim Head are executive producing. The film’s music is composed by Chris Bacon who caught the attention of the film music community with his orchestral score for this year’s Source Code directed by Duncan Jones and starring Jake Gyllenhaal.
Chris Bacon Scoring ‘High Ground’
Chris Bacon is the composer of the upcoming documentary High Ground. The film directed by Michael Brown tells the true story of eleven wounded veterans whose road to recovery takes them to the top of a Himalayan giant on a journey to heal the wounds of war. Don Hahn (The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast) is producing the project. The movie was shot on location in Nepal and the United States and follows an expedition that teamed disabled veterans with world recognized mountain climbers, including blind Everest summiter Erik Weihenmayer. High Ground is expected to make its festival premiere in 2012.
Chris Bacon to Score ‘Wonder Woman’ Pilot
Chris Bacon has been hired to score the NBC pilot Wonder Woman. The project is a reimagining of the iconic D.C. comic created by William Moulton Marston and tells the story of Diana Prince, who tries to balance her life as a vigilante crime fighter, a successful corporate executive and a modern woman. Adrienne Palicki (Friday Night Lights) has been chosen for the title role. Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride, Saw), Elizabeth Hurley (Austin Powers), Tracie Thomas (Cold Case) and Pedro Pascal (The Good Wife) are co-starring in the pilot. The project is produced and written by David E. Kelley and the pilot is directed by Jeffrey Reiner (Friday Night Lights, The Event). Kelley has a history of hiring top film composers on his shows, including Thomas Newman who wrote the opening theme for Boston Public and Mark Isham who wrote two different main titles for Chicago Hope, as well as Marco Beltrami and Christophe Beck who both scored different seasons of his Emmy-winning hit show The Practice.

Three new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Duncan Jones’ Source Code starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan and Vera Farmiga features music by Chris Bacon. A soundtrack including Bacon’s original score has been released by Lakeshore Records as reported here. The album is now available to order on Amazon and can be downloaded at Amazon and iTunes. Also opening wide is Tim Hill’s Hop starring Russell Brand as the voice of the Easter Bunny, as well as James Marsden, Elizabeth Perkins, Kaley Cuoco and Hugh Laurie. The film’s music is by composer Christopher Lennertz. As reported last week, a soundtrack with Lennertz’ score will be released by Varese Sarabande on April 19.
