Three new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:

Duncan Jones’ Source Code starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan and Vera Farmiga features music by Chris Bacon. A soundtrack including Bacon’s original score has been released by Lakeshore Records as reported here. The album is now available to order on Amazon and can be downloaded at Amazon and iTunes. Bacon has been giving a number of interviews about his latest project. Check out Scorenotes, Film Music Media and Filmmuziek.be for audio interviews with the composer.

Also opening wide is Tim Hill’s Hop starring Russell Brand as the voice of the Easter Bunny, as well as James Marsden, Elizabeth Perkins, Kaley Cuoco and Hugh Laurie. The film’s music is by composer Christopher Lennertz. As reported last week, a soundtrack with Lennertz’ score will be released by Varese Sarabande on April 19. Tyler Bates Confirmed to Score ‘Conan the Barbarian’

Film Music Reporter has finally been able to confirm that Tyler Bates has been assigned to score the upcoming remake of Conan the Barbarian. Conan the Barbarian is directed by Marcus Nispel who previously worked with composers Steve Jablonsky (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th) and Jonathan Elias (Pathfinder). The movie centering on the mythical hero driven to avenge the murder of his father and the slaughter of his village stars Jason Momoa, Ron Perlman, Rachel Nichols, Rose McGowan and Stephen Lang. The Millennium/Nu Image film is scheduled to be released on August 19, 2011 by Lionsgate.

03/11/2011 UPDATE: We initially reported that Tim Williams will be co-composing the score according to the resume at the composer’s official webpage. The composer’s website is now listing him as just doing orchestrations, so we’re assuming that Bates will be the only credited composer. Williams has been orchestrating and conducting Bates’ recent scores and also co-wrote the score for the recent animated TV show Sym-Bionic Titan with Bates.

‘Super’ Soundtrack Details

Lakeshore Records has announced a soundtrack album for the upcoming action comedy Super directed by James Gunn and starring Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page, Liv Tyler and Kevin Bacon. The album features the original score by Tyler Bates, as well as songs by such artists as Tsar, Eric Carmen, Lo-def Dollz, Cheap Trick and Moneybrother. The soundtrack will be released on April 5, 2011. To pre-order the CD, visit Amazon. The film is scheduled to be released on April 1 in theaters and on April 13 on Video on Demand.
