Varese Sarabande has announced the details of the soundtrack album for the drama The Railway Man. The album features the film’s original music written by Academy Award-nominated composer David Hirschfelder (Elizabeth, Australia, Legend of the Guardians). The soundtrack will be released physically on May 27, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The Railway Man is directed by Jonathan Teplitzky and stars Colin Firth, Nicole Kidman, Jeremy Irvine, Stellan Skarsgård and Hiroyuki Sanada. The movie follows a British Army officer who is tormented as a prisoner of war at a Japanese labour camp during World War II and discovers decades later that the Japanese interpreter he holds responsible for much of his treatment is still alive. Alex Heffes is currently recording his score for the upcoming British comedy What We Did on Our Holiday. The film is written and directed by Andy Hamilton & Guy Jenkin (Outnumbered) and stars Rosamund Pike, David Tennant, Billy Connolly, Ben Miller and Amelia Bullmore. The movie follows a couple who tries to keep their impending divorce secret from their extended family during a trip to one of their father’s birthday party. David M. Thompson (The Awakening) and Dan Winch are producing the BBC Films and Origin Pictures production. Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for the thriller Perfect Sisters. The album features the songs from the film, including a cover of the Carl Perkins classic Honey Don’t by Johnzo West, The Worst Part/Auld Lang Syne performed by actors Abigail Breslin and Cassidy Reiff, as well as tracks by AWOLNATION, At, Vincent, Hyper Crush, Matt & Kim and more. La-La Land Records has announced the world premiere soundtrack release for the 2004 comedy The Stepford Wives directed by Frank Oz and starring Nicole Kidman, Matthew Broderick and Bette Midler. The album features the film’s original music composed by David Arnold (Independence Day, Casino Royale, Stargate), including a number of alternate cues and music not used in the film. Guillaume Roussel has been tapped to score the upcoming martial arts action movie Outcast. The film marks the directorial debut of stunt coordinator and fight choreographer Nick Powell and stars Nicolas Cage, Hayden Christensen and Liu Yifei. The movie is set in the 12th Century and follows two European Crusaders who chose to wander off toward western China, where they become entangled in romance and antagonism with local royalty. James Dormer (Strike Back) has written the screenplay. Jeremy Bolt (Resident Evil, Death Race) is producing the project with Alan Zhang, Karine Martin (The Moth Diaries), Leonard Glowinski, Ying Ye, Gary Hamilton (Bait), Chris Milburn (Getaway, An American Haunting), George Mizen and Tove Christensen (Shattered Glass). On Sunday, April 27, the Newport Beach Film Festival Seminar Series will present the composer panel Lights, Camera, Action – Creating Music for the Action Film (and other genres). The participating composers include John Ottman (X2, Superman Returns, The Fantastic Four) who recently completed his score for X-Men: Days of Future Past, Christophe Beck (Frozen, The Hangover) who most recently finished work on the sci-fi action film Edge of Tomorrow starring Tom Cruise, Christopher Young (Spider-Man 3, Entrapment) who scored this year’s martial arts epic The Monkey King, one of the all-time highest grossing films in China, Marco Beltrami (World War Z, The Wolverine) whose action movie credits in 2014 include the upcoming November Man starring Pierce Brosnan and Stephen Endelman (Home of the Brave) whose most recent feature Rob the Mob is currently playing in select theaters. Kevin Kiner to Score ‘Star Wars Rebels’

During this past weekend’s WonderCon in Anaheim, CA, it was revealed that composer Kevin Kiner will be composing the score for the upcoming animated series Star Wars Rebels. The show is set between Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope and takes place in a time when the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape. The series’ voice cast includes Freddie Prinze, Jr., Taylor Gray, Steve Blum, Tiya Sircar and Vanessa Marshall. Milan Records will release a soundtrack album for Jon Favreau’s comedy Chef. The album features the songs from the film by artists including Pete Rodriguez, Courtney John, The Martinis, Liquid Liquid, Louie Ramirez, El Michels Affair and more . Also included is a cue by composer Lyle Workman (Superbad, The 40-Year Old Virgin) who wrote additional music for the film.
