Benoit Charest is composing the original score for the upcoming documentary Rumble: The Indians Who Rocked the World. The film is directed by Catherine Bainbridge (Reel Injun) & Alfonso Maiorana and centers on the role of Native Americans in contemporary music history. The movie reveals how indigenous musicians helped shape the soundtracks of our lives and, through their contributions, influenced popular culture. Musicians featured in the film include Robbie Robertson, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Tony Bennett, Steven Tyler and Iggy Pop.

‘Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell’ Soundtrack Details
The details for the soundtrack album for British fantasy drama Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell have been revealed. The album features the music from the mini-series composed by Benoit Charest (The Triplets of Belleville, Upside Down) and Benoit Groulx. The soundtrack will be released on July 24, 2015 by Varese Sarabande and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell is based on Susanna Clarke’s bestselling novel and stars Eddie Marsan, Bertie Carvel, Alice Englert, Marc Warren, Samuel West, Charlotte Riley, Enzo Cilenti, Paul Kaye and Claudia Jessi.

Premiering tomorrow, June 8, is the Bravo original series Odd Mom Out created by Jill Kargman who also stars in the show alongside Abby Elliott, Andy Buckley, Sean Kleier, KK Glick and Joanna Cassidy. The show’s original music is composed by John Dragonetti (The Internet’s Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz, We Are Legion: The Story of the Hacktivists). Odd Mom Out follows a woman who is forced to navigate the wealthy mommy clique that reside in New York’s Upper East Side, which is one of the most prestigious neighborhoods in town. Also premiering tomorrow is the second season of TNT’s Murder in the First created by Steven Bochco & Eric Lodal and starring Taye Diggs, Kathleen Robertson, A.J. Buckley, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Laila Robins, Mo McRae and Mateus Ward. H. Scott Salinas (The Square, Allegiance, The Assets) is the new composer of the show and follows The Hat who scored the first season of the drama. Season 2 of Murder in the First follows homicide detectives Terry English and Hildy Mulligan working on a new case. Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the comedy The Incredible Burt Wonderstone directed by Don Scardino and starring Steve Carell, Steve Buscemi, Jim Carrey, Olivia Wilde, Alan Arkin, James Gandolfini, Jay Mohr and Michael Bully Herbig. The film’s original music is composed by Lyle Workman (The 40-Year Old Virgin, Superbad). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. Also opening wide is the thriller The Call directed by Brad Anderson, Abigail Breslin, Michael Eklund, Justina Machado, Morris Chestnut, David Otunga and Michael Imperioli. John Debney (The Passion of the Christ, Iron Man 2, Elf) has composed the film’s original score. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring Debney’s music earlier this week. ‘Mars & Avril’ Soundtrack Announced
Ad Litteram will release a soundtrack album for the French-Canadian sci-fi drama Mars & Avril. The album features the film’s original music is written by Academy Award-nominated composer Benoit Charest (The Triplets of Belleville). The soundtrack will be released digitally on October 2, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips can be checked out after the jump. Mars & Avril is written and directed by French-Canadian artist and Cirque du Soleil alumnus Martin Villeneuve based on his own graphic novels and stars Caroline Dhavernas, Paul Ahmarani, Robert Lepage and Jacques Languirand. The film premiered at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival this summer and will be released in Canada on October 12.
Benoit Charest Scoring ‘Upside Down’
Benoit Charest is scoring the upcoming sci-fi romance Upside Down. The movie is directed by Juan Diego Solanas and stars Kirsten Dunst and Jim Sturgess. The film centers on a a man searching an alternate universe for a long-lost love from his youth. James W. Skotchdopole (Man on Fire, Spy Game) is executive producing the big budget French/Canadian production and Alex McDowell (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Watchmen) is the project’s production designer. Charest’s best known film credit is the animated film The Triplets of Bellville, which earned the composer an Academy Award nomination for co-writing the song Belleville Redez-Vous. Upside Down already has distributors in place in several European countries. A domestic distribution deal has yet to be announced and a release later this year is expected.
