Rolfe Kent has composed the music for the upcoming comedy The Philosophy of Phil. The film marks the directorial debut of actor Greg Kinnear who also stars in the movie alongside Emily Mortimer, Jay Duplass, Robert Forster, Taylor Schilling, Bradley Whitford and Luke Wilson. The movie follows a dentist who tries to take control of his life after a patient commits suicide. Stephen Mazur (Liar Liar, Heartbreakers) has written the screenplay. Aaron L Gilbert (The Birth of a Nation, A Single Shot) is producing the Bron Studios and Imperative Entertainment production with Sandy Stern (Being John Malkovich, Saved!) and Bradley Thomas (There’s Something About Mary, Me, Myself and Irene).

Rolfe Kent Scoring Kevin Tent’s ‘Crash Pad’
Rolfe Kent has recently composed the original score for the upcoming romantic comedy Crash Pad. The film marks the feature directorial debut of Academy Award-nominated editor Kevin Tent (The Descendants, Nebraska) and stars Domhnall Gleeson, Christina Applegate, Thomas Haden Church and Nina Dobrev. The movie follows a hopeless romantic who thinks he’s found true love with an older woman, only to learn that she’s married and that his fling is merely an instrument of revenge against her neglectful husband. Jeremy Catalino has written the Black List-honored screenplay.
Score Album for Hulu’s ‘Casual’ Announced
Lakeshore Records will release a score album for the Hulu original series Casual. The album features the original music from the show’s first season composed by Mateo Messina (Juno, Butter, The Angriest Man in Brooklyn, Barely Lethal), as well as additional music by Rolfe Kent (Sideways, Up in the Air, Thank You for Smoking, Labor Day). The soundtrack will be released digitally on November 27, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. A physical release is set to come out in early 2016. Casual is created by Zander Lehmann and stars Tommy Dewey, Michaela Watkins and Tara Lynn Barr. The show is executive produced by Jason Reitman and centers on a dysfunctional family with a bachelor brother and his newly divorced sister who coach each other through the world of dating while living under the same roof again and raising a teenager.
Rolfe Kent Scoring ‘Tibetan Rock Dog’
Rolfe Kent is composing the music for the upcoming animated feature Tibetan Rock Dog. The film is directed by Ash Brannon (Toy Story 2, Surf’a Up) and features the voices of Luke Wilson, Mae Whitman, J.K. Simmons, Eddie Izzard, Matt Dillon, Sam Elliott and Jorge Garcia. The movie follows a wide-eyed Tibetan Mastiff who discovers a radio and decides to leave home to fulfill his dream of becoming a musician. The American/Chinese co-production is produced by Reel FX Creative Studios (Free Birds, The Book of Life) and Mandoo Pictures. The project marks Kent’s second animated film following this year’s French production The Prince and the 108 Demons.
‘The Prince and the 108 Demons’ Soundtrack Details
Same Player will release a soundtrack album for the French animated feature The Prince and the 108 Demons (Les 108 Rois-Démons). The album features the film’s original music written by Golden Globe-nominated composer Rolfe Kent (Sideways, Up in the Air, Election, Wedding Crashers). The soundtrack will be released digitally on January 19, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips are embedded after the jump. The Prince and the 108 Demons directed by Pascal Morelli (Corto Maltese) is inspired by the Chinese novel Outlaws of the Water Margin and follows a 10-year-old prince who teams with outlaws to fight the armies of a tyrannical emperor in 12th Century China.
‘Gambit’ Soundtrack Details
Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for the crime comedy Gambit in the U.S. The album features the film’s original score composed by Rolfe Kent (Sideways, About Schmidt, Labor Day, Mean Girls), as well as original songs by Robby Armstrong. Also included are songs by Peggy Lee and Moe Brandy. The soundtrack will be released digitally on May 13, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips are embedded after the jump. The album has previously been released in select stores overseas when the movie opened in the UK. Gambit directed by Michael Hoffman and stars Colin Firth, Cameron Diaz, Alan Rickman, Stanley Tucci and Cloris Leachman. Joel & Ethan Coen (Fargo, No Country for Old Men) have written the screenplay. The movie opened in select theaters and was also released last month by CBS Films.

Three new movies are opening wide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the comedy The Other Woman directed by Nick Cassavetes and starring Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Kate Upton, Taylor Kinney and Nicki Minaj. Aaron Zigman (Bridge to Tarabithia, The Proposal) who previously collaborated with the directors on such movies as John Q, The Notebook and My Sister’s Keeper has composed the film’s original score. Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as songs by The Noizeby Slade and T.Rex and three original Radio Caroline jingles from the 70s. Guaranteed to top the weekend box office is Captain America: The Winter Soldier directed by Anthony & Joe Russo and starring Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Anthony Mackie and Robert Redford. The film’s music is composed by Henry Jackman (X-Men: First Class, Wreck-It-Ralph. Expected to top the weekend box office is the action movie Need for Speed directed by Scott Waugh and starring Aaron Paul, Dominic Cooper, Imogen Poots, Scott Mescudi, Ramon Rodriguez, Michael Keaton, Rami Malek, Dakota Johnson and Harrison Gilbertson. Interscope Records has released a soundtrack featuring the original song Hero by Kid Cudi feat. Skylar Grey, two new songs by Aloe Blacc and more. Click here for the full details. Also opening wide is the comedy Tyler Perry’s The Single Moms Club written, directed and produced by Perry who also stars in the film alongside Nia Long, Amy Smart, Cocoa Brown, Terry Crews, William Levy and Wendi McLendon-Covey. Christopher Young (Spider-Man 3, The Shipping News, Sinister) who previously scored Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas for the filmmaker has composed the film’s original score. No word on a soundtrack album. The comedy follows a group of single mothers from different walks of life bond who create a support group after an incident at their children’s school. ‘Bad Words’ Soundtrack Announced
Back Lot Music will release a soundtrack album for Jason Bateman’s indie comedy Bad Words. The album features the film’s original score composed by Rolfe Kent (Sideways, Election, Mean Girls, Up in the Air). The soundtrack will be released on March 18, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips after the jump. Bad Words stars Jason Bateman as a 40-year-old who finds a loophole in the rules of The Golden Quill national spelling bee and decides to cause trouble by hijacking the competition. Rohan Chand, Kathryn Hahn, Allison Janney and Philip Baker Hall are co-starring in Bateman’s directorial feature debut. The movie will be released in select theaters this Friday, March 14 by Focus Features.
