Rolfe Kent is set to score the upcoming French 3D animated feature 108 Demons (La légende des 108). The film is directed by Pascal Morelli who previously helmed the animated adventure Corto Maltese. The movie inspired by the Chinese novel Outlaws of the Water Margin is set in 12th Century China and follows a 10-year-old prince who teams with outlaws to fight the armies of a tyrannical emperor. Morelli has also co-written the screenplay with Jean Pecheux based on Hugo Pratt’s comicbook. Vincent Roget and Francois Cornuau (Les Brigades du Tigre) of Same Player are producing the project with China’s Fundamental, Belgium’s Scope Pictures and Luxembourg’s Bidibul Productions.

Weekly Film Music Roundup (February 7, 2014)
Three new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the animated feature The Lego Movie directed by Phil Lord & Chris Miller and featuring the voices of Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Liam Neeson, Alison Brie, Nick Offerman, Charlie Day and Morgan Freeman. Mark Mothersbaugh who previously scored Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs and 21 Jump Street for the directors has composed the film’s original music. WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the original song Everything Is AWESOME!!! by Tegan and Sara featuring The Lonely Island. Also opening wide is the historical drama The Monuments Men directed by George Clooney who also stars in the film alongside Matt Damon, Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, Jean Dujardin, Bob Balaban, Hugh Bonneville and John Goodman. Alexandre Desplat (The King’s Speech, Argo, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) has composed the film’s original music and also has a cameo appearance in the movie. Sony Masterworks has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the romantic comedy That Awkward Moment written and directed by Tom Gormican and starring Zac Efron, Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Imogen Poots, Mackenzie Davis and Jessica Lucas. David Torn (Lars and the Real Girl, The Wackness) has composed the film’s original score. Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the songs from the movie by artists including Crozet, Night Drive, Black Apples, Strange Talk and Lavender Diamond. ‘Labor Day’ Soundtrack Announced
Warner Bros. Records will release a soundtrack album for Jason Reitman’s drama Labor Day. The album features the film’s original score composed by Rolfe Kent (Sideways, The Wedding Crashers, Election) who previously scored the director’s features Thank You for Smoking, Up in the Air and Young Adult. Also included are the songs from the film performed by Arlo Guthrie and Vashti Bunyan, as well as classical guitar pieces by Andrés Segovia and Shin-ichi Fukuda. The soundtrack will be released digitally on December 17, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. A CD version will be coming out on January 28 and is available to order here. Labor Day starring Kate Winslet, Josh Brolin, Gattlin Griffith, Clark Gregg and Tobey Maguire follows a mother and son who encounter a man on a shopping trip who convinces them to take him into their home and later is revealed to be an escaped convict. The drama will receive an Academy Awards-qualifying theatrical run in Los Angeles later this year and is set to be released nationwide on January 31, 2014 by Paramount Pictures.
‘Dom Hemingway’ Soundtrack Details
Metropolis Movie Music will release a soundtrack album for the crime comedy Dom Hemingway. The album features the film’s original score composed by Rolfe Kent (Sideways, Election, Up in the Air), as well as the songs from the film by artists including Citizen Cope, Chad Hobson and Emilia Clarke. The soundtrack will be released digitally on November 12, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Dom Hemingway is directed by Richard Shepard and stars Jude Law, Richard E. Grant, Demian Bichir, Emilia Clarke, Kerry Condon, Jumayn Hunter and Madalina Ghenea. The movie about a notorious safecracker who is looking for payback from a crime boss premiered at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival and will be released in the UK on November 15 and in the U.S. on April 4, 2014 by Fox Searchlight.
‘The Scapegoat’ Soundtrack Details
Chapter 2 will release a soundtrack album for the French comedy drama The Scapegoat (Au bonheur des ogres). The album features the film’s original score composed by Golden Globe-nominated composer Rolfe Kent (Sideways, Up in the Air, Election). Also included are the songs featured in the movie by artists including Ben Howard and C2C. The soundtrack is now available digitally in France (click here to listen to audio clips). The Scapegoat is directed by Nicolas Bary and stars Berenice Bejo (The Artist) as an investigative journalist, alongside Raphael Personnaz and Emir Kusturica. The movie based on the classic novel by Daniel Pennac is produced by Dimitri Rassam (Upside Down). The comedy will be released this Wednesday, October 16 in France. No word yet on a domestic distribution deal.
Rolfe Kent to Score ‘Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters’
Rolfe Kent has signed on to score the upcoming fantasy adventure Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters. The film based on the best-selling young adult novel series by Richelle Mead is directed by Mark Waters (The Spiderwick Chronicles) and stars Zoey Deutch and Lucy Fry as the lead characters Rose and Lissa. Danila Kozlovski, Olga Kurylenko, Sarah Hyland, Gabriel Byrne and Joely Richardson are co-starring. The movie follows a teen who has a mental and spiritual bond with her vampire best friend and attends a special school for vampires who are attempting to keep some of their humanity while other of their species are becoming more wild.
‘Dexter’ Season 7 Soundtrack Details
Milan Records will release a new soundtrack for the Showtime hit series Dexter. The album features selections from the seventh season’s original score composed by Daniel Licht. Also included is Rolfe Kent’s main title theme, as well as a selection of Latin tracks from season 7 by artists including The Spanish Harlem Orchestra, Patato, Latin Soul Syndicate, Kluba and Joao Gilberto. The soundtrack will be released on August 20, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The seventh season of Dexter starring Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter, Desmond Harrington, C.S. Lee, Lauren Velez, David Zayas and James Remar has been released on Blu-Ray and DVD this past May and the eighth and final season currently airs every Sunday night on Showtime.
Rolfe Kent Scoring ‘Dom Hemingway’
Rolfe Kent has recently scored the upcoming crime comedy Dom Hemingway. The film is written and directed by Richard Shepard and stars Jude Law, Richard E. Grant, Demian Bichir, Emilia Clarke, Kerry Condon, Jumayn Hunter and Madalina Ghenea. The movie follows a notorious safecracker who is looking for payback from a crime boss. Jeremy Thomas (The Last Emperor, A Dangerous Method, The Dreamers) is producing the project for Recorded Picture Company, alongside BBC Films, CinemaNX/Isle of Man Film, Pinewood Films and Lionsgate. Kent has previously collaborated with Shepard on such features as The Hunting Party, The Matador, Oxygen and Mercy.
Rolfe Kent Scoring Jason Bateman’s ‘Bad Words’
Rolfe Kent is the composer of the upcoming dark indie comedy Bad Words. The film marks the feature directorial debut of actor Jason Bateman who also stars in the film, alongside Allison Janney, Phillip Baker Hall, Ben Falcone and Rohan Chandz. The movie follows a bitter 41-year-old high school drop out who uses a loophole in the system to enter a national kids’ spelling bee. Andrew Dodge wrote the black-listed screenplay and Bateman is also producing the Aggregate Films, MXN Entertainment and Darko Entertainment production with Mason Novick (Juno, 500 Days of Summer), Sean McKittrick (Donnie Darko, The Box), Ted Hamm and Jeff Culotta (God Bless America).
