Daniel Licht has passed away at age 60 following a battle of cancer. The composer was best known for scoring all eight seasons of the Showtime hit series Dexter. He also composed the music for such features as Children of the Corn II & III, Hellraiser: Bloodline, Thinner, Bad Moon and Soul Survivors, as well as TV shows including Body of Proof, Kitchen Confidential and The Red Road. He received multiple BMI TV Music Awards throughout his career, including five awards for his work on Dexter.

Premiering today in the U.S. is the British/French TV series The Tunnel based on the Scandinavian drama The Bridge and starring Stephen Dillane and Clémence Poésy. The music from the show’s first season is composed by Adrian Johnston (Becoming Jane, Kinky Boots, Bridesheads Revisited, Dancing on the Edge) and the second season is scored by Ben Bartlett (Walking with Dinosaurs, The Mark of Cain). The drama follows two detectives working together to find a serial killer who left the upper-half body of a French politician and the lower-half of a British prostitute in the Channel Tunnel. Premiering tomorrow, June 20, is the documentary Suited directed by Jason Benjamin and produced by Lena Dunham. Owen Pallett (Her, Life, The Box) has composed the film’s original music. The movie centers on Bindle & Keep, a Brooklyn tailoring company that is known for making custom suits for a growing legion of gender-nonconforming clients. Freeform’s ‘Guilt’ to Feature Music by Daniel Licht
Daniel Licht is composing the music for the new Freeform original series Guilt. The show is created by Kathryn Price & Nichole Millard (The Game Plan) and stars Emily Tremaine, Daisy Head, Billy Zane, Cristian Solimeno and Anthony Stewart Head. The drama follows an American girl who, when abroad in London, becomes the prime suspect in the savage murder of her roommate. Price and Millard are also executive producing the Sea to Sky Entertainment and BV Family production. Gary Fleder (Don’t Say a Word, Runaway Jury) has directed the pilot episode.
‘Dexter’ Season 8 Soundtrack Details
Milan Records will release a soundtrack for the eighth seaon of the Showtime original series Dexter. The album features selections of the original score from the show’s final season composed by Daniel Licht who has been scoring the drama since the first season. Also included are two original songs produced by Licht and performed by Jon Licht and David Poe, as well as live tracks from the Dexter Live concert. Also featured is Rolfe Kent’s main titles theme and the song Make Your Own Kind of Music performed by Mama Cass. The soundtrack will be released on July 29, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The label has previously released soundtracks for the previous seven seasons. The final season of Dexter is now available on Blu-ray and DVD.
‘Scoring for Crime, Death and Resurrection’ Composer Panel at Comic-Con Announced
The line-up of the composer panel Behind the Music with CW3PR: Crime, Death and Resurrection at Comic-Con has been announced. The sixth edition of the event will feature a number of film and television composers discussing their work and will also feature surprise sneak peeks from upcoming projects, followed by a fan-led Q&A with exclusive giveaways. Panelists at this year’s panelists include two recent first-time Emmy nominees: Jeff Russo (Hostages) who was nominated for his music for FX’s Fargo and James Levine (Glee, Major Crimes, Nip/Tuck) who received the honor for his music on FX’s American Horror Story. Other participants include Golden Globe nominee Christopher Young (Spider-Man 3, Deliver Us from Evil), Steve Jablonsky (Transformers series, Ender’s Game), Daniel Licht (Dexter, The Red Road) and Brian Reitzell (Hannibal, 30 Days of Night).

Premiering tonight is the new NBC comedy Growing Up Fisher created by DJ Nash, narrated by Jason Bateman and starring J.K. Simmons, Jenna Elfman, Eli Barker, Ava Deluca-Verley and Lance Lim. The show’s original music is composed by Mateo Messina (Juno, Fairly Legal, Butter). The series centers on an 11-year old son who idolizes his blind father and is bemused by his mother’s newfound adolescence. Daniel Licht to Score Sundance Channel’s ‘The Red Road’
Daniel Licht has been hired to score the Sundance Channel’s upcoming original series The Red Road. The show is created by Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners, Contraband) and stars Martin Henderson, Tom Sizemore, Jason Mamoa and Julianne Nicholson. The drama centers around a local sheriff struggling to keep his family together while simultaneously policing two clashing communities: the small town where he grew up and the neighboring mountains – home of a federally unrecognized Native American tribe. Guzikowski is also executive producing the project with Sarah Condon (Bored to Death, Looking) and Bridget Carpenter (Friday Night Lights, Parenthood). James Gray (The Yards, We Own the Night) has directed the first episode.
‘Dexter’ Season 7 Soundtrack Details
Milan Records will release a new soundtrack for the Showtime hit series Dexter. The album features selections from the seventh season’s original score composed by Daniel Licht. Also included is Rolfe Kent’s main title theme, as well as a selection of Latin tracks from season 7 by artists including The Spanish Harlem Orchestra, Patato, Latin Soul Syndicate, Kluba and Joao Gilberto. The soundtrack will be released on August 20, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The seventh season of Dexter starring Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter, Desmond Harrington, C.S. Lee, Lauren Velez, David Zayas and James Remar has been released on Blu-Ray and DVD this past May and the eighth and final season currently airs every Sunday night on Showtime.

The prequel to the HBO hit show Sex And The City is executive produced by Amy B. Harris, Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage, Len Goldstein, Candace Bushnell, Miguel Arteta who also directed the pilot episode. The show’s score is composed by Mark Mothersbaugh (21 Jump Street, Hotel Transylvania). The series will be airing every Monday night on The CW. Daniel Licht to Score NBC’s ‘Deception’
Daniel Licht has been hired to score the upcoming NBC drama Deception. The show is created by Liz Heldens (Mercy, Friday Night Lights) and stars Meagan Good, Victor Garber, Katherine LaNasa, Tate Donovan, Marin Hinkle, Laz Alonso, Ella Rae Peck and Wes Brown. The series, which was previously entitled Infamous, follows a female detective who returns undercover to the wealthy and troubled family she grew up in to solve the murder of a notorious heiress who was once her closest friend. Heldens is executive producing the drama with Gail Berman (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel), Lloyd Braun (Alphas), Gene Stein (Less Than Perfect) and Peter Horton (Grey’s Anatomy). Infamous is set to premiere on January 7, 2013 and will be airing every Monday night on NBC.
