Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the romantic comedy That Awkward Moment written and directed by Tom Gormican and starring Zac Efron, Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Imogen Poots, Mackenzie Davis and Jessica Lucas. David Torn (Lars and the Real Girl, The Wackness) has composed the film’s original score. Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the songs from the movie by artists including Crozet, Night Drive, Black Apples, Strange Talk and Lavender Diamond. Also opening wide following an Academy Awards-qualifying limited run in December is the drama Labor Day directed by Jason Reitman and starring Kate Winslet, Josh Brolin, Gattlin Griffith, Clark Gregg and Tobey Maguire. Rolfe Kent (Sideways, Mean Girls, Election) who previously scored the Reitman’s features Thank You for Smoking, Up in the Air and Young Adult has composed the film’s original music. Warner Bros. Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the songs featured in the drama. Milan Records will release a soundtrack album for the documentary Tim’s Vermeer. The album features the film’s original music composed and conducted by Conrad Pope (My Week with Marilyn, Pavilion of Women). The soundtrack will be released digitally January 28, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on 
Conrad Pope is the composer of the upcoming documentary Tim’s Vermeer. The film is directed by Teller of Penn & Teller fame and follows Tim Jenison, a Texas based inventor, as he attempts to solve the mystery of how 17th century Dutch Master Johannes Vermeer (Girl with a Pearl Earring) managed to paint so photo-realistically,150 years before the invention of photography. The movie chronicles Jenisen’s decade-long journey, including a trip to Delft, Holland, where Vermeer painted his masterpieces, a pilgrimage to the North coast of Yorkshire to meet artist David Hockney and eventually a trip to Buckingham Palace, to see the Queen’s Vermeer. Teller’s stage partner Penn Jillette and Farley Ziegler are producing the project. Pope’s previous credits as a composer include 2011’s My Week with Marilyn and 2001’s Pavilion of Women. He is also known as an orchestrator for such A-list composers as John Williams, James Horner, Alexandre Desplat, James Newton Howard and Alan Silvestri.
