Opening in theaters nationwide today and also premiering on HBO Max is the drama Judas and the Black Messiah directed by Shaka King and starring Daniel Kaluuya, LaKeith Stanfield, Dominique Fishback, Ashton Sanders, Jesse Plemons and Martin Sheen. The film’s original score is composed by Mark Isham (Crash, Once Upon a Time, Miracle, A River Runs Through It) & Craig Harris. WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ music today (click here the full details). Also out now is a separate album featuring an original song by H.E.R. as featured in the movie, as well as other songs inspired by the film (click here for more information).

Also opening wide is the drama Land directed by Robin Wright and starring Wright herself, Demián Bichir and Kim Dickens. Ben Sollee (Maidentrip) and the string trio Time for Three. have composed the film’s original music. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the score, as well as a song written and performed by Daniel Toshian today. Jed Kurzel Scoring Lu Yang’s ‘A Writer’s Odyssey’

Jed Kurzel (Alien: Covenant, The Snowtown Murders, Macbeth, Assassin’s Creed, The Babadook, The True History of the Kelly Gang, Overlord) has composed the original music for the new Chinese fantasy epic A Writer’s Odyssey. The film is directed by Lu Yang (Brotherhood of Blades, The Sacrifice) and stars Lei Jiayin, Yang Mi, Dong Zijian, Yu Hewei and Guo Jingfei, as well as Tong Liya and Dong Jie. The movie tells the story of Kongwen Lu, the author of a fantasy novel series following a heroic teenager, also named Kongwen, on a quest to confront Lord Redmane, under the guidance of a Black Armor. But through a strange twist of fate, the fantasy world of the novel begins to impact life in the real world, leading Guan Ning to accept a mission from Tu Ling to kill the author.

Opening in the U.S. in select drive-in theaters and on VOD today is the western True History of the Kelly Gang directed by Justin Kurzel and starring George MacKay, Essie Davis, Nicholas Hoult, Charlie Hunnam, Russell Crowe, Thomasin McKenzie, Sean Keenan, Orlando Schwerdt, Earl Cave, Marlon Williams and Louis Hewison. The film’s original music is composed by Jed Kurzel (Alien: Covenant, Macbeth, The Babadook, The Mustang, The Snowtown Murders). Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this year when the movie opened in Australia. Also opening on VOD is the historical drama Robert the Bruce directed by Richard Gray and starring Angus Macfadyen (who is reprising his role from Mel Gibson’s Braveheart), Jared Harris, Anna Hutchinson, Patrick Fugit, Emma Kenney, Zach McGowan, Daniel Portman, Talitha Eliana Bateman and Mhairi Calvey. Mel Elias (Blush) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced. ‘True History of the Kelly Gang’ Soundtrack Details

Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for the western True History of the Kelly Gang. The album features the film’s original music composed by Jed Kurzel (Alien: Covenant, Macbeth, The Babadook, Assassin’s Creed, The Mustang, The Snowtown Murders). The soundtrack will be released digitally on January 10 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. True History of the Kelly Gang is directed by Justin Kurzel and stars George MacKay, Essie Davis, Nicholas Hoult, Charlie Hunnam, Russell Crowe, Orlando Schwerdt, Thomasin McKenzie, Sean Keenan, Earl Cave, Marlon Williams and Louis Hewison. The movie is based on Peter Carey’s Booker Prize–winning novel and tells the story of the life and crimes of infamous 19th-century Australian outlaw Ned Kelly.

Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the action adventure Jumanji: The Next Level directed by Jake Kasdan and starromh Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, Nick Jonas, Awkwafina, Danny Glover and Danny DeVito. The film’s original music is composed by Henry Jackman (Captain America: The Winter Soldier & Civil War, X-Men: First Class, Wreck-It-Ralph). Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Click here for the full album details.

Also opening wide is the drama Richard Jewell directed by Clint Eastwood starring Paul Walter Hauser, Sam Rockwell, Kathy Bates, Jon Hamm and Olivia Wilde. Arturo Sandoval (The Mule, For Love or Country: The Arturo Sandoval Story, At Middleton) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album is expected to be released. ‘Seberg’ Soundtrack Details

Music.Film Recordings has announced the official soundtrack album for the dramatic thriller Seberg. The album features the film’s original music composed by Jed Kurzel (Alien: Covenant, Macbeth, Assassin’s Creed, The Babadook, The Mustang, The Snowtown Murders). The soundtrack will be released digitally this Friday, December 13 and will be available to stream/download here. Seberg is directed by Benedict Andrews and stars Kristen Stewart, Jack O’Connell, Margaret Qualley, Zazie Beetz, Vince Vaughn and Anthony Mackie. The movie tells the true story of French New Wave darling and Breathless star, Jean Seberg, who in the late 1960s was targeted by the FBI because of her support of the civil rights movement and romantic involvement with Hakim Jamal, among others.

The film is directed by Benedict Andrews and stars Kristen Stewart, Jack O’Connell, Anthony Mackie, Margaret Qualley, Colm Meaney, Zazie Beetz, Vince Vaughn, Stephen Root and Yvan Attal. The movie centers on attempts by the FBI to discredit actress Jean Seberg through its Cointelpro program in retaliation for her support of the Black Panther Party.

The only movie opening nationwide this weekend is the Fast & Furious spin-off Hobbs & Shaw directed by David Leitch and starring Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Idris Elba, Vanessa Kirby and Helen Mirren. The film’s original score is composed by Tyler Bates (Guardians of the Galaxy, Deadpool 2, John Wick, 300). Opening in limited release is the psychological thriller Luce directed by Julius Onah and starring Kelvin Harrison Jr., Naomi Watts, Octavia Spencer and Tim Roth. Ben Salisbury & Geoff Barrow (Annihilation, Ex Machina, Hanna, Free Fire) have composed the film’s original score. Lakeshore Records & Invada Records have released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score. Composer Jed Kurzel (Alien: Covenant, The Babadook, Assassin’s Creed, Overlord) is reteaming with director Justin Kurzel on the upcoming western The True History of the Kelly Gang. The film stars George MacKay, Russell Crowe, Nicholas Hoult, Charlie Hunnam, Essie Davis, Thomasin McKenzie, Sean Keenan, Harry Greenwood and Earl Cave. The movie based on Peter Carey’s Booker Prize-winning novel of the same name and centers on notorious bushranger Ned Kelly, one of the world’s greatest outlaws, and the colonial badlands from which he rose. Shaun Grant (Berlin Syndrome) wrote the screenplay.

The film’s original score is composed by  Steven Price (Gravity, Suicide Squad, Baby Driver). Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score.
