Four new movies are opening in theaters nationwide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the animated feature Missing Link written and directed by Chris Butler and starring Hugh Jackman, Zoe Saldana, Zach Galifianakis, Timothy Olyphant, Emma Thompson, David Walliams, Stephen Fry and Matt Lucas. Carter Burwell (Carol, Fargo, Twilight, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) has composed the film’s original score. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well an original end credits song by The Walkmen’s Walter Martin. Click here for the full album details.

Also opening wide is the new film adaptation of Hellboy directed by Neil Marshall and starring David Harbour, Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane, Sasha Lane, Daniel Dae Kim and Penelope Mitchell. The film’s original music is composed by  Benjamin Wallfisch (It, Shazam!, Blade Runner 2049, Hidden Figures). ‘Little’ Soundtrack Details

Back Lot Music will release the official soundtrack album for the comedy Little. The album features the film’s original score composed by Germaine Franco (Tag, Dope, Vida). Also included are songs by Chloe x Halle, Lai Burger, Janelle Monáe feat. Pharrell Williams, Lekeli47, Mary J. Blige, H.E.R. & others. The soundtrack will be released digitally this Friday, April 12 and will be available to download here. Little is directed by Tina Gordon (Peeples) and stars Regina Hall, Issa Rae and Marsai Martin. The movie follows an adult woman who gets the chance to relive her carefree youth after the pressures of adulthood overwhelm her.

John Debney & Germaine Franco to Score James Bobin’s ‘Dora the Explorer’

John Debney (The Passion of the Christ, The Jungle Book, Iron Man 2) & Germaine Franco (Tag, Dope) are teaming up to score the upcoming family adventure Dora the Explorer. The film is directed by James Bobin (The Muppets, Muppets Most Wanted) and stars Isabela Moner, Eugenio Derbez, Eva Longoria, Michael Peña, Jeffery Wahlberg, Nicholas Coombe, Madeleine Madden, Adriana Barraza, Q’orianka Kilcher, Pia Miller and Temuera Morrison. Benicio del Toro also stars as the voice of Swiper. The movie is based on Nickelodeon’s animated TV series and follows the title character as she has to save her parents and solve the impossible mystery behind a lost Inca civilization.

Germaine Franco Scoring Tina Gordon’s ‘Little’

Germaine Franco (Dope, Tag) is scoring the upcoming comedy Little. The film is directed by Tina Gordon (Peeples) and stars Regina Hall, Issa Rae and Marsai Martin. The movie centers on an adult woman who gets the chance to relive her carefree youth after the pressures of adulthood overwhelm her. Gordon also co-wrote the screenplay with Tracy Oliver (Girls Trip, Barbershop: The Next Cut) based on an idea by Martin. Will Packer (Ride Along, Think Like a Man) & James Lopez (Breaking In) are producing the project with Kenya Barris (Girls Trip, Black-ish).

Premiering tonight is the Syfy original series Nightflyers developed by Jeff Buhler based on George R.R. Martin’s novella and the 1987 film of the same name and starring Eoin Macken, David Ajala, Sam Strike, Maya Eshet, Angus Sampson, Jodie Turner-Smith, Brian F. O’Byrne and Gretchen Mol. The show’s original music is composed by Will Bates (The Path, The Looming Tower, I Origins, The Magicians). Also premiering tonight is Freeform original feature Life-Size 2 directed by Steven K. Tsuchida and starring Tyra Banks, Francia Raisa, Gavin Stenhouse, Shanica Knowles, Hank Chen and Alison Fernandez. Germaine Franco (Tag, Dope, Vida) has composed the film’s original score. Walt Disney Records has released a new version of the song Be a Star (originally written for the first movie, which premiered in 2000) performed by Tyra Banks. Freeform’s ‘Life-Size 2’ to Feature Song by Tyra Banks & Original Score by Germaine Franco

Tyra Banks has recorded a new version of the song Be a Star for the Freeform original movie Life-Size 2. The song, which was originally written by George Blondheim & Mark Rosman for the first 2000 Life-Size movie (click here to download), has been released as a digital single from Walt Disney Records and is available to download here. Check out the music video after the jump. Germaine Franco (Tag, Dope, Vida) has composed the original score for Life-Size 2, which is directed by Steven K. Tsuchida and stars Banks herself, alongside Francia Raisa, Gavin Stenhouse, Shanica Knowles, Hank Chen and Alison Fernandez.

Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for the comedy Tag. The album features the film’s original music composed by Germaine Franco (Dope, Coco, Vida). The soundtrack will be released digitally on June 15, 2018 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Tag is directed by Jeff Tomsic and stars Ed Helms, Jeremy Renner, Hannibal Buress, Isla Fisher, Jake Johnson, Jon Hamm, Annabelle Wallis, Rashida Jones and Leslie Bibb. The movie is based on the true story of a group of friends who have been playing a no-holds-barred version of the children’s game Tag for the last 30 years.

John Powell Honored at ASCAP Screen Music Awards

John Powell accepting the Henry Mancini Award

Last night, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) held its annual Screen Music Awards at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. John Powell (Solo: A Star Wars Story, The Bourne Identity, Happy Feet, Shrek) was honored with the ASCAP Henry Mancini Award for his outstanding achievements and contributions to the world of film and television music. The composer was presented the award by Dean DeBlois, director of How to Train Your Dragon, for which Powell received his first Academy Award nomination and who is currently working with the composer on the third part of the animated franchise.
