Weekly Film Music Roundup (August 16, 2024)

Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the sci-fi/horror movie Alien: Romulus directed by Fede Alvarez and starring Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu. The film’s original music is composed by Benjamin Wallfisch (It, Blade Runner 2049, Shazam!, Twisters, Hidden Figures, The Flash, The Invisible Man). Hollywood Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today and Mutant will release a vinyl edition in the coming months. Also opening wide is the family adventure drama My Penguin Friend directed by David Schurmann and starring Jean Reno, Adriana Barraza, Alexia Moyano, Rochi Hernández, Nicolás Francella, Juan José Garnica and Pedro Urizzi. Fernando Velazquez (The Impossible, A Monster Calls, Crimson Peak, The Orphanage, Hercules, Devil) has composed the film’s original music. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score (performed by the Euskadiko Orchestra / Basque National Orchestra) is expected to be announced soon. Josh Atchley Scoring RJ Collins’ ‘Crescent City’

Josh Atchley (Superfly, Grand Isle, The Rising Hawk, Parallel, 10 Minutes Gone) has provided the original score for the upcoming crime thriller Crescent City. The film is directed by RJ Collins and stars Terrence Howard, Esai Morales, Nicky Whelan and Alec Baldwin. The movie follows a chief detective of a small southern town that becomes terrorized by a relentless serial killer who gets haunted by the horrors of his past as everyone becomes a suspect – including local authorities.

Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the crime comedy Drive-Away Dolls co-written and directed by Ethan Coen and starring Margaret Qualley, Geraldine Viswanathan, Beanie Feldstein, Colman Domingo, Bill Camp, Joey Slotnick and Pedro Pascal. The film’s original music is composed by Carter Burwell (The Banshees of Inisherin, Carol, Fargo, True Grit, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Twilight). Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as songs by artists such as Linda Ronstadt, Asie Payton, The Liverbirds, Le Tigre, Shannon Shaw & others today. Also opening wide is the drama Ordinary Angels directed by Jon Gunn and starring Hilary Swank, Alan Ritchson, Nancy Travis, Tamala Jones, Drew Powell, Drew Powell, Amy Acker, Skywalker Hughes and Emily Mitchel. Pancho Burgos-Goizueta (Anonymous Killers, People You May Know, Wheels, God’s Not Dead: A Light in Darkness) has composed the film’s original score. ‘The Rising Hawk’ Soundtrack Released

Josh Atchley (Superfly, Grand Isle, 10 Minutes Gone, The Boy Band Con: The Lou Pearlman Story) has released a soundtrack album for the historical action drama The Rising Hawk. The album features the composer’s original score from the film and is now available to stream/download here. The Rising Hawk is directed by Akhtem Seitablaye & John Wynn and stars Robert Patrick, Tommy Flanagan, Poppy Drayton, Alison Doody, Alex MacNicoll, Tsegmid Tserenbold, Rocky Myers and Oliver Trevena. The movie based on a novella by Ivan Franko is set in the 13th Century and revolves around a group of hunters under siege from a ferocious horde as they try to protect their village and their very lives.

Opening in most theaters Pixar’s animated feature Incredibles 2 directed by Brad Bird and featuring the voices of Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Sarah Vowell, Huck Milner and Samuel L. Jackson. The film’s original music is composed by Michael Giacchino (Up, Ratatouille, Inside Out, Star Trek, Lost, Jurassic World, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story).
