Already playing in theaters nationwide since this past Wednesday is the animated sequel The Super Mario Galaxy Movie directed by Aaron Horvath & Michael Jelenic and starring Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, Donald Glover, Benny Safdie, Luis Guzmán, Kevin Michael Richardson, Issa Rae and Brie Larson.The film’s original music is composed by Brian Tyler (Iron Man 3, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Fast & Furious, Crazy Rich Asians, Thor: The Dark World, Yellowstone, Now You See Me, Nuremberg). Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s earlier this week and iam8bit will release physical versions later this year. Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the romantic comedy The Drama written and directed by Kristoffer Borgli and starring Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Mamoudou Athie, Hailey Benton Gates and Alana Haim. Daniel Pemberton (Spider-Man: Into/Across the Spider-Verse, Project Hail Mary, Steve Jobs, Enola Holmes, Materialists, The Bad Guys,  The Man from U.N.C.L.E., King Arthur: Legend of the Sword) has composed the film’s original music. Soundtrack Album for François Ozon’s ‘The Stranger’ Released

Milan Records has released a soundtrack album for the French drama The Stranger (L’étranger). The album features the film’s original music composed by Fatima Al Qadiri (Atlantics, Skincare, Seeking Mavis Beacon, The Grandmother). The soundtrack is now available to stream/download here, where you can also check out the track list. Also listen to the composer’s main theme after the jump. The Stranger is written and directed by François Ozon and stars Benjamin Voisin, Rebecca Marder, Pierre Lottin, Swann Arlaud and Denis Lavant. The movie is based on Albert Camus’ cult classic novel of the same title and follows an emotionally detached and quiet clark n living in 1930s colonial Algeria whose routine is shattered when his neighbor pulls him into shady dealings, culminating in a tragic event on a blisteringly hot beach.

Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the sci-fi horror thriller Afraid written and directed by Chris Weitz and starring John Cho, Katherine Waterston, Havana Rose Liu,Lukita Maxwell,  David Dastmalchian and Keith Carradine. The film’s original score is composed by Alex Weston (The Farewell, Expats, Wander Darkly, The Adults, The Novice, Goodnight Mommy) who also co-wrote the original song I Love You (with Weitz) for the project. Madison Gate Records will release a soundtrack album according to the movie’s end credits, but no announcement has been made yet. Check out our previous article to learn more about the Blumhouse production, which is being released by Sony Pictures.

Also opening wide is the biographical drama Reagan directed by Sean McNamara and starring Dennis Quaid, Penelope Ann Miller, Jon Voight, Kevin Dillon, Olek Krupa, David Henrie, Mena Suvari, Xander Berkely, C. Thomas Howell, Trevor Donovan, Robert Davi, Kevin Sorbo Lesley-Anne Down and Jennifer O’Neill. John Coda (Bratz, The King’s Daughter, Hoovey, Cats & Dogs 3: Paws Unite) has composed the film’s original score. No word on a score release. ‘Seeking Mavis Beacon’ Soundtrack Album Released

Milan Records has released a soundtrack album for the documentary Seeking Mavis Beacon. The album features the film’s original music composed by Fatima Al Qadiri (Atlantics, Skincare, The Grandmother). Visit Amazon or any other major digital music services to stream/download the soundtrack. Also listen to the composer’s first track (Cyber Doula) after the jump. Seeking Mavis Beacon is directed by Jazmin Renée Jones and centers on the educational software Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing that was launched in the late ’80s and taught millions globally, but the program’s Haitian-born cover model vanished decades ago. The movie follows two DIY investigators as they search for the unsung cultural icon, while questioning notions of digital security, AI, and Black representation in the digital realm.

Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the sci-fi/horror movie Alien: Romulus directed by Fede Alvarez and starring Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu. The film’s original music is composed by Benjamin Wallfisch (It, Blade Runner 2049, Shazam!, Twisters, Hidden Figures, The Flash, The Invisible Man). Hollywood Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today and Mutant will release a vinyl edition in the coming months. Also opening wide is the family adventure drama My Penguin Friend directed by David Schurmann and starring Jean Reno, Adriana Barraza, Alexia Moyano, Rochi Hernández, Nicolás Francella, Juan José Garnica and Pedro Urizzi. Fernando Velazquez (The Impossible, A Monster Calls, Crimson Peak,  The Orphanage, Hercules, Devil) has composed the film’s original music. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score (performed by the Euskadiko Orchestra / Basque National Orchestra) is expected to be announced soon. Milan Records will release the official soundtrack album for the crime thriller Skincare. The album features the film’s original music composed by Fatima Al Qadiri (Atlantics, Seeking Mavis Beacon, The Grandmother). The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, August 16. ‘The Grandmother’ (‘La abuela’) Soundtrack Released

Quartet Records has released a soundtrack album for the Spanish/French horror movie The Grandmother (La abuela). The album features the film’s original music composed by Fatima Al Qadiri (Atlantics). The soundtrack is now available to stream/download here, where you can also check out the track list and listen to audio samples. A vinyl edition is available to order on Amazon and the label’s official website. The Grandmother is directed by Paco Plaza (REC), written by Carlos Vermut and stars Almudena Amor and Vera Valdez. The Apache Films production follows a Paris model who returns to Madrid where her grandmother who had brought her up, just had a stroke and whose stay with her relative turns into a waking nightmare.

Three new movies are opening in theaters nationwide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the sports drama Ford v Ferrari directed by James Mangold and starring Matt Damon, Christian Bale, Jon Bernthal, Caitriona Balfe, Josh Lucas, Noah Jupe, Tracy Letts, Remo Girone and Ray McKinnon. The film’s original music is composed by Marco Beltrami (3:10 to Yuma, Logan, Scream, A Quiet Place) & Buck Sanders (The Hurt Locker, Warm Bodies). Fox Music & Hollywood Records have released two soundtrack albums featuring the composers’ music (click here for the score album details) and the songs from the movie (click here for more information).

Also opening wide is the action comedy Charlie’s Angels directed by Elizabeth Banks and starring Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, Ella Balinska, Djimon Hounsou, Noah Centineo, Sam Claflin and Patrick Stewart. Brian Tyler (Iron Man 3, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Fast & Furious, Crazy Rich Asians) has composed the film’s original score. ‘Atlantics’ (‘Atlantique’) Soundtrack Released

Milan Records has released a soundtrack album for the drama Atlantics (Atlantique). The album features the film’s original music composed by Fatima Al Qadiri. The soundtrack is now available to download in French music stores (click here to check out audio samples) and will be released in the U.S. and other markets on November 15 (visit Amazon to pre-order the album). Atlantics is directed by Mati Diop and stars Mama Sané, Amadou Mbow, Ibrahima Traoré, Nicole Sougou, Amina Kane, Mariama Gassama and Coumba Dieng. The movie, which has just been selected as Senegal’s candidate for the Best International Feature category for next year’s Academy Awards, centers on the blossoming love between, a young construction worker and a woman who is about to be forced into an unwanted arranged marriage with a wealthier man.
