Premiering tonight is the new Starz original series Vida created by Tanya Saracho and starring Melissa Barrera, Mishel Prada, Karen Ser Anzoategui, Chelsea Rendon, Carlos Miranda and Maria Elena Laas. The show’s original music is composed by Germaine Franco (Dope, Tag). To learn more about the drama, which follows two Mexican-American sisters from the Eastside of Los Angeles who are forced to return to their old neighborhood, visit the official show website.

Also premiering tonight is the Starz original series Sweetbitter created by Stephanie Danler and starring Ella Purnell, Tom Sturridge, Caitlin FitzGerald, Paul Sparks and Evan Jonigkeit. Will Bates (The Looming Tower, I Origins, The Path, The Magicians, Rise) is composing the show’s original music. Ben Onono Scoring Netflix’s ‘Safe’

Ben Onono (Paranoid, Half a Yellow Sun, Trust Me) is scoring the new Netflix original series Safe. The show is created by Harlan Coben and written by Danny Brocklehurst (Ordinary Lies, The Driver, Shameless) and stars Michael C. Hall, Amanda Abbington, Marc Warren, Hannah Arterton, Audrey Fleurot and Nigel Lindsay. The thriller follows a widower who begins uncovering the dark secrets of the people closest to him after his daughter goes missing.

Mark Mothersbaugh’s ‘Safe’ Soundtrack Released

Pale Blue Records has released a soundtrack album for the Jason Statham-starring thriller Safe. The album features the film’s original score composed by Mark Mothersbaugh (21 Jump Street, The Royal Tenenbaums). The digital-only release is available to download on Amazon. Check out audio clips from all 22 tracks on the album after the jump. Safe is directed by Boaz Yakin (Remember the Titans) and co-stars hris Sarandon and Robert John Burke. The movie produced by Lawrence Bender (Pulp Fiction) and Dana Brunetti & Kevin Spacey (The Social Network) follows a former elite agent who rescues a young Chinese girl carrying vital secrets that both the Chinese and Russian Mafia are intent on obtaining in order to blackmail world governments. The thriller is currently playing in theaters.

Four new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the Aardman Animation’s and Sony Pictures Animation’s 3D stop-motion animated feature The Pirates! Band of Misfits directed by Peter Lord (Wallace & Gromit, Chicken Run) & Jeff Newitt and featuring the voice talent of Hugh Grant, Salma Hayek, Jeremy Piven, Imelda Staunton and David Tennant. The film’s score is composed by Theodore Shapiro. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music has been released earlier this week on Madison Gates Records and is available exclusively on iTunes. Also opening wide is the period thriller The Raven directed by James McTeigue (V for Vendetta) and starring John Cusack, Alice Eve and Brendan Gleeson. The score for the film about the final days of Edgar Allan Poe is composed by Lucas Vidal. A soundtrack album featuring Vidal’s original music has been released by Relativity Music Group. Mark Mothersbaugh to Score ‘Safe’

Film Music Reporter has learned that Mark Mothersbaugh has been hired to score the upcoming crime thriller Safe. In the movie, a former elite agent rescues a young Chinese girl carrying vital secrets that both the Chinese and Russian Mafia are intent on obtaining in order to blackmail world governments. The film starring Jason Statham, Chris Sarandon and Robert John Burke is directed by Boaz Yakin. Yakin previously worked with composers Trevor Rabin (Remember the Titans), Joel McNeely (Uptown Girls), Lesley Barber (A Price Above Rubies, Death in Love) and Stewart Copeland (Fresh) on his earlier movies. The film is produced by Lawrence Bender (producer on all Quentin Tarantino-directed movies), as well as Dana Brunetti and Kevin Spacey (The Social Network) through their company Trigger Street Productions.
