Composer Fernando Velázquez (A Monster Calls, The Impossible, Crimson Peak, The Orphanage, Hercules, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Devil) is reuniting with writer/director Oriol Paulo on the upcoming Spanish Netflix limited series The Last Night at Tremore Beach (La última noche en Tremor Beach). The show is created, co-written and directed by Paulo and stars Javier Rey, Ana Polvorosa, Willy Toledo and Pilar Castro. The 8-part psychological thriller is based on the best-selling novel of the same title by Mikel Santiago and follows a musician and composer in crisis who retreats into a coastal village in the north to finish his latest work, when he begins to experience some terrifying visions about his neighbors.

Weekly Film Music Roundup (August 16, 2024)
Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the sci-fi/horror movie Alien: Romulus directed by Fede Alvarez and starring Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu. The film’s original music is composed by Benjamin Wallfisch (It, Blade Runner 2049, Shazam!, Twisters, Hidden Figures, The Flash, The Invisible Man). Hollywood Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today and Mutant will release a vinyl edition in the coming months. Fernando Velazquez (The Impossible, The Orphanage, A Monster Calls, Crimson Peak, Hercules, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Devil) has composed the original music for the upcoming animated feature Buffalo Kids. The film is directed by Juan Jesús Galocha & Pedro Solís and stars (in its English language version) Alisha Weir, Stephen Graham, Gemma Arterton and Sean Bean. The movie based on the short Cuerda (Strings) is set in 1886 America and tells the story of two Irish siblings who arrive on an ocean liner to New York City where their uncle was meant to pick them up, when they decide to stow away on the Transcontinental Railroad in the hopes of making it to California to find him.

Fernando Velazquez (The Impossible, Crimson Peak, A Monster Calls, Hercules, The Orphanage, Devil) has been tapped to score the upcoming family adventure drama My Penguin Friend. The film is directed by David Schurmann (Little Secret, Desaparecidos) and stars Jean Reno and Adriana Barraza. The movie is based on a true story and centers on the friendship between a fisherman and lonely father who has turned away from the world in the wake of tragedy and a little lost penguin who recharges his spirit and heals his family .
‘The Movie Teller’ Soundtrack Album Announced
Quartet Records has announced a soundtrack album for the Spanish/French/Chilean drama The Movie Teller (La contadora de películas). The album features the film’s original music composed and conducted by Fernando Velázquez (The Impossible, A Monster Calls, The Orphanage, Hercules, Devil, Crimson Peak). The soundtrack will be released next week and will be available to stream/download on Amazon and any other major digital music services. A limited edition CD is now available to order on the label’s official website, where you can also check out the track list and listen to audio samples. The Movie Teller is directed by Lone Scherfig (An Education) and stars Bérénice Bejo, Antonio de la Torre, Daniel Brühl, Alondra Valenzuela and Sara Becker. The movie tells the story of a young woman uses her storytelling gifts to share the magic of the pictures she has seen in the cinema with the poor inhabitants of a desert mining community.

Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend while also premiering on Peacock today is the horror movie Five Nights at Freddy’s directed by Emma Tammi and starring Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Matthew Lillard, Mary Stuart Masterson, Kat Conner Sterling and Piper Rubio. The film’s original music is composed by The Newton Brothers (The Haunting of Hill House, The Fall of the House of Usher, Doctor Sleep, The Forever Purge, Midnight Mass). Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score today. The show is created by Avi Issacharoff & Lior Raz (Fauda) and stars Dina Shihabi, Dermot Mulroney, Garret Dillahunt, Iddo Goldberg, Hisham Suleiman, Amir Khoury and Rafi Gavron. The 4-part spy drama, which features an innovative narrative approach augmented by journalistic research and documentary elements, reveals the origins of 21-year old Mughniyeh (aka “The Ghost”) who emerged from obscurity and was responsible for more American deaths than any other individual prior to 9/11.
