Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

dolphin-tale-2Opening in most theaters is the family movie Dolphin Tale 2 written and directed by Charles Martin Smith and starring Harry Connick, Jr., Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd, Kris Kristofferson, Nathan Gamble, Cozi Zuehlsdorff and Austin Stowell. The film’s original music is composed by Rachel Portman (The Cider House Rules, Chocolat, The Manchurian Candidate). Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. no-good-deedAlso opening nationwide is the thriller No Good Deed directed by Sam Miller and starring Idris Elba, Taraji P. Henson, Leslie Bibb, Kate del Castillo and Henry Simmons. Paul Haslinger (Underworld, Halt and Catch Fire, The Girl Next Door) has composed the film’s original score. Madison Gate Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music earlier this week. Heitor Pereira Scoring ‘The Jesuit’

heitor-pereiraHeitor Pereira is composing the music for the upcoming crime thriller The Jesuit. The film is directed by Alfonso Pineda Ulloa and stars Jose Maria Yazpik, Tim Roth, Brian Cox, Tommy Flanagan, Neal McDonough, Shannyn Sossamon and Paz Vega. The movie follows an ex-convict who is forced to take matters into his own hands after his wife is killed and his son is kidnapped. Paul Schrader (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Affliction) has written the screenplay and also serves as an executive producer. Alex Da Kid to Develop Movie Musical ‘Ziggy’

alex-da-kidBritish music producer Alex Da Kid is developing the original contemporary music for the upcoming movie musical Ziggy. The film is directed by Diesel Schwarze who previously worked with Baz Luhrmann on Moulin Rouge! and Broadway’s La Boheme. The period movie is set to star Dane DeHaan and Rooney Mara and follows a hunchback escape artist who arrives in New York during the mass-culture boom of the late 1920s and falls in love with the fiance of a powerful media mogul. Lynette Howell and Jamie Patricof (The Place Beyond the Pines, Blue Valentine, Half Nelson) are producing the project for their Electric City Entertainment company. Da Kid has produced such hit songs as Eminem’s Love the Way You Lie, Rihanna’s Loud and Imagine Dragons’ Radioactive. Read the rest of this entry »

wish-i-was-hereMiles of Lions Records has released a score album for Zach Braff’s indie dramedy Wish I Was Here. The soundtrack features the film’s original score composed by Rob Simonsen (The Spectacular Now, (500) Days of Summer, The Way Way Back). The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon and iTunes, where you can also listen to audio clips. Also watch a video featuring Simonsen performing his theme from the score on the piano below. Columbia Records has previously released a separate soundtrack featuring the songs from the film. Wish I Was Here stars Zach Braff, Kate Hudson, Joey King, Jim Parsons, Ashley Green, Mandy Patinkin and Josh Gad. The Kickstarter-funded film written and directed by Braff follows a thirtysomething man who finds himself at major crossroads, which forces him to examine his life, his career, and his family. tokarevCaldera Records has announced the details of the soundtrack release for the action thriller Tokarev (released in the U.S. under the title Rage). The album features the film’s original music composed by Laurent Eyquem (Copperhead, Winnie Mandela). Also included on the CD is an audio commentary by the composer talking about the concept of his score. To listen to a 5-min cue from the soundtrack and to pre-order the album, visit Screen Archives. Tokarev is directed by Paco Cabezas and stars Nicolas Cage, Rachel Nichols and Danny Glover. The thriller follows a respectable businessman who rounds up his old crew to help him find his kidnapped teenage daughter. Antoine Duhamel (1925 – 2014)

antoine-duhamelAntoine Duhamel has passed away at age 89. The French composer was best known for scoring numerous films for directors Jean-Luc Godard and Francois Truffaut. His collaborations with Godard included 1965’s BAFTA-nominated drama Pierrot le Fou starring Jean-Paul Belmondo and 1967’s Weekend. Among the movies he scored for Truffaut were the 1968 Oscar-nominated comedy drama Stolen Kisses and 1969’s Mississippi Mermaid starring Belmondo & Catherine Deneuve. He also worked together with director Bertrand Travier multiple times, including on 1980’s Death Watch starring Romy Schneider & Harvey Keitel and on the 2002 war drama Safe Conduct. His other credits include the Spanish 1992 feature Belle Epoque, which received the Academy Award in the Best Foreign Language film category, the 1996 Oscar- and Golden Globe-nominated comedy drama Ridicule directed by Patrice Leconte and the 1998 Spanish film The Girl of Your Dreams starring Penelope Cruz. ‘Borgia’ Season 3 Soundtrack Details

borgiaA soundtrack album will be released for the third and final season of the historical drama Borgia. The album features selection from the show’s original score composed by Eric Neveux (Intimacy, The Attack, Sitcom) who previously wrote the music for the second season. The soundtrack will be released digitally on September 15, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips after the jump. Silva Screen Records has previously released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music for Season 2. Borgia is created by Tom Fontana and stars John Doman, Stanley Weber, Mark Ryder, Isolda Dychauk, Diarmuid Noyes, Assumpta Serna and Marta Gastini. The final season of the show about the Borgia family’s rise to power and subsequent domination of the Papal States during the Renaissance airs this fall in Europe and is expected to premiere in the U.S. on Netflix later this year or in early 2015. ‘Saint Laurent’ Soundtrack Announced

imageEuropaCorp will release a soundtrack album for the biographical drama Saint Laurent. The album features the film’s original score composed by the film’s director Bertrand Bonello (House of Tolerance). Also included are the songs from the film by artists including Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Velvet Underground, The Metros, Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons and Patti Austin, as well as several classical pieces featured in the movie. The soundtrack will be released digitally on September 22, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips are embedded after the jump. Saint Laurent directed by Bonello stars Gaspard Ulliel, Louis Garrel, Jérémie Renier and Lea Seydoux. The movie takes place between 1976 and 1987, during which time the famed French fashion designer was at the peak of his career. ‘Reclaim’ Soundtrack Details

The album features the film’s original music composed by Inon Zur (Prince of Persia, Dragon Age, Crysis video games). Also included is the song Fighting the World performed by Mike Harris and written by Maddie White (check out the track after the jump), as well as three songs written by Edgardo Monserrat. The soundtrack will be released digitally on September 16, 2014 and physically on October 14. The movie follows an American couple, who travel to Puerto Rico to finalize the adoption of their new seven-year old daughter who mysteriously vanishes from their hotel room.
