Singer/songwriter, cellist and composer Kelsey Lu (Earth Mama, Daughters) has written the original score for the upcoming drama Clarissa. The film is directed by Arie & Chuko Esiri and stars Sophie Okonedo, Ayo Edebiri, David Oyelowo, Toheeb Jimoh, India Amarteifio and Fortune Nwafor. The movie is based on Virginia Woolf’s classic novel Mrs. Dalloway and follows a society woman as she prepares to host a party at her home in Lagos, Nigeria, where she unexpectedly encounters once-intimate friends from her youth. Chuko Esiri also wrote the screenplay. Both directors are also producing the project with Theresa Park (Bones and All, After Yang) and Nicholas Weinstock (Severance, Thelma). Clarissa is premiering today at Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight and will be distributed in the U.S. by Neon.
