Last night, the film music of 1985 was celebrated at the concert Back in Time…1985 LIVE! at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center. The concert was produced by Varese Sarabande and performed by the Golden State Pops Orchestra (GSPO). Special guests included composers David Shire who conducted his score for Return to Oz, Bruce Broughton who conducted his Academy Award-nominated music from Silverado, Cliff Eidelman who conducted George Delerue’s score for Agnes of God, Jeff Beal who conducted a piece from John Corigliano’s music from Revolution and Christopher Lennertz who conducted music from Michael Kamen’s score for Brazil.

Varese Celebrates 35th Birthday with Holiday Concert Gala
This past Saturday evening, Varese Sarabande hosted their 35th Anniversary Holiday Gala at the Warner Grand Theatre in San Pedro, California. The concert was hosted and produced by Robert Townson and performed by the Golden State Pops Orchestra (GSPO) and Chorale. The event was highlighted by music from Jon Favreau’s Elf, which was performed for the first time with a full choir and orchestra and was guest conducted by the film’s composer John Debney (The Passion of the Christ, Iron Man 2). Also featured was a special performance of the holiday classic A Charlie Brown Christmas Classic prepared by composer and orchestrator William Ross (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Ladder 49). Varèse Sarabande to Host Holiday Gala
Varèse Sarabande Records will host its 35th Anniversary Holiday Gala, celebrating the music from seasonal film favorites on December 21, 2013 at the Warner Grand Theatre at 478 W 6th Street in San Pedro, CA. John Debney (The Passion of the Christ, Iron Man 2) will be guest conducting music from his score for Jon Favreau’s holiday classic Elf, as well as songs from John Williams’ Home Alone soundtrack. The event will also feature the world premiere concert adaptation of A Christmas Carol which aired on CBS in 1954 with a score by Bernard Herrmann (Psycho, Vertigo) and lyrics by Maxwell Anderson. Also attending the concert will be composer and orchestrator William Ross (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, My Dog Skip) who will be conducting music from Vince Guaraldi’s A Charlie Brown Christmas featuring flutist Sara Andon In addition, vocalist Tara Alexander will perform Alexandre Desplat’s song Still Dream from Rise of the Guardians.
Varèse Sarabande Celebrates 35th Anniversary with Halloween Concert Gala
This past Saturday night, film music record label Varèse Sarabande hosted their 35th Anniversary Halloween Concert Gala at the Warner Grand Theatre in San Pedro, California. The concert was hosted and produced by Robert Townson and performed by the Golden State Pops Orchestra (GSPO) and Chorale. Highlights included a suite from the comic book film adaptation of Ghost Rider, which Golden Globe-nominated composer Christopher Young (The Shipping News, Spider-Man 3) arranged specifically for the concert and which featured a full orchestra, chorus and a heavy metal band led by Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo. The performance was received with a standing ovation by the audience. Additionally, Oscar nominee Marco Beltrami (3:10 to Yuma, World War Z) made his concert conducting debut with a suite of his scores for Alex Proyas’ I, Robot and Knowing, as well as Guillermo del Toro’s Mimic and Hellboy.
Varese Sarabande to Host Halloween Concert Gala
Varèse Sarabande Records will host a special Halloween Concert Gala as part of their worldwide 35th anniversary celebration on October 19, 2013 at the Warner Grand Theatre at 478 W 6th Street in San Pedro, CA. The concert will feature performances by composers including Marco Beltrami (Mimic, Hellboy, Scream), John Debney (Sin City, End of Days), Christopher Young (Ghost Rider, The Grudge, The Fly 2), Brian Tyler (Children of Dune, Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem), and Nathan Barr (True Blood, Hostel), as well as several surprise guests. Additional composers that are set to attend the event include Randy Edelman (The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor), Joseph LoDuca (The Evil Dead), Lee Holdridge (The Mists of Avalon) and Cliff Eidelman (Christopher Columbus: The Discovery).
The Varèse Sarabande Summer Signing Announced
Continuing the celebration of their 35th Anniversary, Varèse Sarabande Records presents The Varèse Sarabande Summer Signing to take place on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Dark Delicacies in Burbank, CA. Composers in attendance include Emmy Award-winning composer Jeff Beal (Rome, Monk, Appaloosa) whose Emmy-nominated score for the Netflix original series House of Cards was released by the label earlier this year, Grammy Award-winning composer Heitor Pereira (Despicable Me, Beverly Hills Chihuaha) whose score for The Smurfs 2 was just released by Varese earlier this week and Emmy Award-winning composer Christophe Beck (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Muppets) whose music for The Hangover Trilogy is now available on CD following a digital release earlier this summer. Also participating are composers Laurent Eyquem (Winnie) who recently had his first score released on Varese for Ron Maxwell’s Copperhead and Ryan Amon whose score for Neil Blomkamp’s Elysium is set to be released on August 6, as well as Varèse Sarabande Records producer Robert Townson. Varese Sarabande to Present Music from the Star Wars Universe Concert
Varèse Sarabande Records continues their 35th anniversary celebration with a special tribute performance by the Golden State Pops Orchestra (GSPO) celebrating the Star Wars legacy on June 15, 2013. The Music from the Star Wars Universe concert will feature musical selections from various Star Wars projects including the classic scores composed by John Williams, including Star Wars: Main Title, Imperial March, Princess Leia’s Theme, and Across the Stars from Attack of the Clones. In addition, Varèse will celebrate Joel McNeely‘s release for his score to Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, which will also be performed. Also featured will be music from Star Wars video games, spin-off films and fan films. On Saturday night, film music label Varèse Sarabande hosted their 35th Anniversary Concert Gala at the Warner Grand Theatre in San Pedro, California. The sold out concert was hosted and produced by Varese Sarabande’s Robert Townson and performed by the Golden State Pops Orchestra (GSPO) and Chorale. The event featured a special guest performance by Academy Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer who performed a suite from Driving Miss Daisy on piano featuring Incubus guitarist Mike Einziger and violinist Ann Marie Calhoun. The suite also included a preview from the composer’s score for the upcoming Superman reboot Man of Steel. Additionally, Academy Award-winner Michael Giacchino (Up) conducted the world premiere of a special suite from his score for Star Trek Into Darkness and John Powell (The Bourne Trilogy) conducted a suite from his Oscar-nominated score for Dreamworks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon.

Varese Sarabande has announced a new 4CD set in celebration of the label’s 35th anniversary. The album features highlights from Varese Sarabande’s soundtrack releases of the past five years. Among the scores/composers featured on the album are Star Trek (Michael Giacchino), How to Train Your Dragon (John Powell), I Am Legend (James Newton Howard), The Help (Thomas Newman), Frost/Nixon(Hans Zimmer), Rise of the Planet of the Apes (Patrick Doyle), The Ghost Writer (Alexandre Desplat), Fast Five (Brian Tyler), Real Steel (Danny Elfman), G.I.
