The only movie opening nationwide this weekend is the action adventure sequel Jurassic World directed by Colin Trevorrow and starring Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty Simpkins, Nick Robinson, Irrfan Khan, Vincent D’Onofrio, Jake Johnson, Omar Sy, BD Wong and Judy Greer. The film’s original music is composed by Michael Giacchino (Up, Inside Out, Star Trek, Lost). Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music earlier this week. Check out our previous news article for the full album details and to listen to audio clips. Also visit USA Today and NPR for interviews with the composer about his work on the project.
Opening in select cities before expanding nationwide over the next couple of weeks is the indie comedy drama Me and Earl and the Dying Girl directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon and starring Thomas Mann, Olivia Cooke, RJ Cyler, Nick Offerman, Molly Shannon, Jon Bernthal and Connie Britton. Brian Eno has composed the film’s music and Nico Muhly (The Reader, Margaret, Kill Your Darlings) has also provided original music. No word yet on a soundtrack album. Me and Earl and the Dying Girl follows a student who is coasting to senior year of high school as anonymously as possible and is forced by his mother to befriend a classmate with leukemia. The dramedy premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and is being released by Fox Searchlight. Visit the official movie website to learn more about the film.
