Academy Announces 112 Original Scores in Oscar Race

oscarsThe Academy of Motion Pictures Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the eligible movies in contention for nominations in the Original Score category for the 88th Academy Awards. The 112 eligible scores along with the composer are listed below in alphabetical order by film title. The nominations will be announced on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.

Brian Tyler to Score ‘Under the Gun’

under-the-gunBrian Tyler is composing the score for the upcoming documentary Under the Gun. The film is directed by Stephanie Soechtig (Fed Up) and centers around the mass shootings that have ripped across the United States, compounding an epidemic of gun violence in the country. The movie is told through the lens of the victims’ families, as well as pro-gun advocates. Olivia Ahnemann (Racing Extinction), Josh Kunau and Kristin Lazure are producing the project. Katie Couric who previously teamed up with Soechtig on Fed Up serves as an executive producer on the film. ‘The 5th’ Wave Soundtrack Details

The album features the film’s original music composed by Henry Jackman (Captain America: The Winter Soldier & Civil War, Wreck-It-Ralph, X-Men: First Class, Big Hero 6). The soundtrack will be released on January 8, 2016 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The 5th Wave is directed by J Blakeson and stars Chloe Grace Moretz, Nick Robinson, Ron Livingston, Maggie Siff, Alex Roe, Maria Bello, Maika Monroe and Live Schreiber. The movie based on the young adult novel of the same title by Rick Yancey is set in the present day after four waves of increasingly deadly attacks have left most of Earth decimated and follows a 16-year-old girl who is on the run and desperately trying to save her younger brother. ‘The Forest’ Soundtrack Details

The album features the film’s original music composed by Bear McCreary (The Walking Dead, Battlestar Galactica, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Outlander). The soundtrack will be released digitally on January 8, 2016 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio samples. The Forest is directed by Jason Zada and stars Natalie Dormer, Taylor Kinney, Eoin Macken and Yukiyoshi Ozawa. The thriller produced by David S. Goyer is set in the legendary Aokigahara Forest at the base of Mt. Trevor Morris to Score ‘Goon: Last of the Enforcers’

goonTrevor Morris has signed on to score the upcoming comedy sequel Goon: Last of the Enforcers. The film is directed by Jay Baruchel and stars Seann William Scott, Liev Schreiber, Baruchel himself, Marc-André Grondin, Kim Coates and Alison Pill who are reprising their roles from the original movie. They are joined by Wyatt Russell and Elisha Cuthbert. Baruchel has also co-written the screenplay with Jesse Chabot. David Gross (Room, What If), Jesse Shapira, and Jeff Arkuss are producing the project for No Trace Camping, alongside André Rouleau (Delivery Man, An American Haunting) for Caramel Films. Michael Brook to Score ‘Tallulah’

The film is written and directed by Sian Heder (Orange Is the New Black) and stars Ellen Page, Allison Janney, Tammy Blanchard, Evan Jonigkeit and Uzo Aduba. The movie follows a rootless young woman who takes a toddler from a wealthy, negligent mother and passes the baby off as her own in an effort to protect her. Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Mrs. Doubtfire) is producing the project with Heather Rae (Frozen River, Ass Backwards), Russell Levine and Todd Traina. ‘The Hateful Eight’ Soundtrack Preview

hatefulThe Weinstein Company has published the opening track from Quentin Tarantino’s western The Hateful Eight. The track, entitled L’Ultima Diligenza di Red Rock, is written by the film’s composer Ennio Morricone (Once Upon a Time in the West, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, The Untouchables, The Mission). As previously reported, Decca Records will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the songs from the film this Friday, December 18. The album features the film’s original music composed by Lucas Vidal (Fast & Furious 6, The Raven, The Cold Light of Day, The Quiet Ones) who recorded his score at Abbey Road Studios in London. Also included is the original title song co-written by the composer and performed by Pablo Alborán, as well songs by Yolanda Eyama and Brigitte Emaga. The 6-parter is directed by Susanne Bier (In a Better World, After the Wedding) and stars Hugh Laurie, Tom Hiddleston, Olivia Colman, Tom Hollander, Elizabeth Debicki, David Harewood, Neil Morrissey, Katherine Kelly and Tobias Menzies.
