Premiering on Tuesday, September 4, is the FX original series Mayans MC created by Kurt Sutter & Elgin James and starring JD Pardo, Clayton Cardenas, Edward James Olmos, Sarah Bolger, Michael Irby, Carla Baratta, Antonio Jaramillo, Raoul Max Trujillo, Richard Cabral and Danny Pino. The show’s original music is composed by Bob Thiele Jr. who previously composed FX’s Sons of Anarchy. 20th Century Fox TV Records has released the first track from the soundtrack, Nunca performed by David Hidalgo & Los Refugios Tiernos, earlier this week. Also premiering on Tuesday is the USA original series The Purge created by James DeMonaco based on the movie franchise and starring Gabriel Chavarria, Lili Simmons, Lee Tergesen, Jessica Garza, Amanda Warren, Colin Woodell, Hannah Emily Anderson and William Baldwin. Tyler Bates (Guardians of the Galaxy, Deadpool 2, 300, John Wick, Watchmen) is composing the show’s original music. Jeff Beal Scoring John Chester’s ‘The Biggest Little Farm’

Jeff Beal has recently recorded his score for the upcoming documentary The Biggest Little Farm. The film is directed by John Chester (Rock Prophecies, Euphoria) and follows the filmmaker and his wife Molly Chester, a culinary writer, who trade city life to start their own farm on a stretch of depleted soil outside Los Angeles. Chester is also producing the project with Sandra Keats who previously served as a co-producer and associate producer on the Beal-scored documentaries Generation Wealth and Last Call at the Oasis.  Read the rest of this entry »

Two new movies are opening in theaters nationwide this week:

Already playing in theaters nationwide since this past Wednesday is the historical thriller Operation Finale directed by Chris Weitz and starring Oscar Isaac, Ben Kingsley, Lior Raz, Melanie Laurent, Nick Kroll, Joe Alwyn, Haley Lu Richardson, Michael Aronov, Ohad Knoller and Greta Scacchi. The film’s original music is composed by Alexandre Desplat (The Shape of Water, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The King’s Speech, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows). Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Click here for the full album details.

Also opening wide is the sci-fi thriller Kin directed by Jonathan Baker & Josh Baker and starring Jack Reynor, Myles Truitt, Zoë Kravitz, Carrie Coon, Dennis Quaid and James Franco. The post-rock band Mogwai (The Returned, Before the Blood) has composed the film’s original music. Temporary Residence has released a soundtrack album featuring the band’s score. Steve McQueen’s ‘Widows’ to Feature Original Song by Sade

Sade has recorded the original song The Big Unknown for Steve McQueen’s upcoming heist thriller Widows. The track is co-written by herself and Ben Travers who also produced the song with Aaron Taylor Dean. The singer/songwriter has previously contributed an original song for Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle in Time, which was released earlier this year. Widows stars Viola Davis, Michelle Rodriguez, Elizabeth Debicki, Cynthia Erivo, Colin Farrell, Brian Tyree Henry, Daniel Kaluuya, Garret Dillahunt, Carrie Coom, Jacki Weaver, Jon Bernthal, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Robert Duvall & Liam Neeson. ‘Slice’ Soundtrack Details

Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for the horror comedy Slice. The album features the film’s original music composed by Ludwig Goransson (Black Panther, Creed, Community, Fruitvale Station) and Nathan Matthew David (The Last Word, Angie Tribeca). The soundtrack will be released digitally on September 14, 2018 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Slice is written and directed by Austin Vesely and stars Zazie Beetz, Chance the Rapper and Will Brill. The movie is set in a spooky small town, where a slew of pizza delivery boys are slain on the job, and follows two daring survivors who set out to catch the culprits behind the cryptic crime spree. ‘The Old Man & the Gun’ Soundtrack Announced

Varese Sarabande has announced a soundtrack album for the David Lowery’s crime comedy The Old Man & the Gun. The album features the film’s original music composed by Daniel Hart who previously scored the director’s last three features Pete’s Dragon, Ain’t Them Bodies Saints and A Ghost Story. Also included are three songs by The Kinks, Scott Walker and Jackson C. Frank. The soundtrack will be released physically on October 5, 2018 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The Old Man & the Gun starring Robert Redford, Casey Affleck, Danny Glover, Tika Sumpter, Tom Waits and Sissy Spacek tells the true story of Forrest Tucker, from his audacious escape from San Quentin at the age of 70 to an unprecedented string of heists that confounded authorities and enchanted the public. ‘Peppermint’ Soundtrack Details

Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for the action thriller Peppermint. The album features the film’s original music composed by Simon Franglen (The Magnificent Seven, Ice). Also included is the original song Dark Angel by Geno Lenardo and the original end credits song Push Me by Lenardo feat. Ash Costello. The soundtrack will be released digitally next Friday, September 7 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Peppermint is directed by Pierre Morel (Taken) and stars Jennifer Garner, John Ortiz, John Gallagher Jr. and Juan Pablo Raba. The movie tells the story of a young mother whose husband and daughter are killed in a brutal attack on the family. WaterTower Music will release a soundtrack album for the supernatural horror thriller The Nun. The album features the film’s original music composed by Golden Globe nominee Abel Korzeniowski (A Single Man, Penny Dreadful, W.E., Nocturnal Animals, Romeo & Juliet). The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, August 31 and will be available to download on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio samples. The Nun is directed by Corin Hardy and stars Demian Bichir, Taissa Farmiga, Jonas Bloquet, Charlotte Hope, Ingrid Bisu and Bonnie Aarons. The movie produced by James Wan is a spin-off of The Conjuring 2 and follows a priest with a haunted past and a novitiate on the threshold of her final vows who are sent by the Vatican to investigate the case of a young nun in Romania taking her own life. Daniel Lopatin (aka Oneohtrix Point Never) has composed the original score for the period drama The Mountain. The film is directed by Rick Alverson (Entertainment, The Comedy) and stars Tye Sheridan, Jeff Goldblum, Hannah Gross, Denis Lavant and Udo Kier. The movie is set in 1950s America and follows an introverted young man who joins a renowned lobotomist as he promotes his recently debunked procedure and begins to identify with the patients, among them the daughter of a charismatic leader in the burgeoning New Age movement of the West.
