Polydor France has released a soundtrack album for Claude Lelouch’s drama The Best Years of a Life (Les plus belles années d’une vie). The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award winner Francis Lai (Love Story, Bolero) and French singer/songwriter Calogero. The project marks the final film scoring project of Lai who passed away last November. Also included is the original title song by Calogero & Nicole Croisille. The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also check out the full track list and listen to audio samples. The Best Years of a Life co-written and directed by Lelouch and stars Jean-Louis Trintignant and Anouk Aimee who reprise their roles from 1966’s A Man and a Woman (also scored by Lai).

Francis Lai (1932 – 2018)
French composer Francis Lai has passed away at age 86. He is best known for his score for Arthur Hiller’s 1970 feature Love Story, for which he received an Academy Award and a Golden Globe, and also earned a Grammy Award nomination. Lai was also Golden Globe-nominated for his score and songs from Claude Lelouch’s 1966 drama A Man and a Woman and 1967 movie Live for Life. In 2014, he was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the World Soundtrack Awards. Among the composer’s other film scoring credits are Lelouch’s Bolero, David Hamilton’s Bilitis and Michael Winner’s I’ll Never Forget What’s’isname.
Francis Lai to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award at Ghent Film Festival
Francis Lai has been selected as the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement award at the closing-night gala of the 14th World Soundtrack Awards at the Ghent Film Fest on October 25, 2014. The composer is best known for his score for 1970’s Love Story, for which he received an Academy Award, as well as a Golden Globe and Grammy Award nomination. His other scoring credits include such titles as A Man and a Woman, Bilitis, Live for Life and Dark Eyes. Selections of the composer’s music will be performed live by the Brussels Philharmonic conducted by Dirk Brosse at the event. Among the composers that were previously honored with the award are John Barry, Marvin Hamlisch, Pino Donaggio Giorgio Moroder and Angelo Badalamenti. In addition, Jef Neve’s music for the Flemish drama series In Flanders Fields will also be performed at the World Soundtrack Awards, accompanied by footage from the show.
Philippe Rombi’s ‘La Nouvelle Guerre des Boutons’ Soundtrack Announced
Music Box Records has announced a soundtrack release for last year’s film adaptation of La Nouvelle Guerre des Boutons (War of the Buttons). The album includes the original score from the movie composed by Philippe Rombi (Swimming Pool). For audio clips and to pre-order the album, visit the label’s website. La Nouvelle Guerre des Boutons is directed by Christophe Barratier (The Chorus, Paris 36) and stars Laeticia Casta, Kad Merad, Guillame Canet and Gerard Jugnot. The movie was released in France last fall. The Weinstein Company has reportedly been in negotiations to pick up domestic rights for a release in the US later this year.
