Four new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the supernatural thriller Doctor Sleep directed by Mike Flanagan and starring Ewan McGregor, Rebecca Ferguson, Jacob Tremblay, Zahn McClarnon, Bruce Greenwood, Carel Struycken and Emily Alyn Lind. The film’s original music is composed by The Newton Brothers (The Haunting of Hill House, Ouija: Origin of Evil, Oculus, Life of Crime). Also opening wide is the World War II drama Midway directed by Roland Emmerich and starring Ed Skrein, Patrick Wilson, Luke Evans, Nick Jonas, Tadanobu Asano, Luke Kleintank, Darren Criss, Mandy Moore, Dennis Quaid and Woody Harrelson. Vampire Weekend member Ezra Koenig and director Will Gluck have co-written an original song for the new family comedy Peter Rabbit. The track, entitled I Promise You, is featured in three different versions in the movie, including a version performed by James Corden (voice of the film’s lead character) and produced by Greg Kurstin, another one performed by Shana Halligan, Katharine Hoye, Fletcher Sheridan & Chris Mannas and produced by the film’s composer Dominic Lewis (The Man in the High Castle, Money Monster, Free Birds), as well as demo version performed by Koenig himself. Composer Theodore Shapiro (Ghostbusters, The Devil Wears Prada) co-wrote another original song, Small As Your Dreams, with Gluck. 
Premiering on Tuesday, January 16, is the new CW drama Black Lightning developed by Samil Akil & Mara Brock Akil based on the DC comic books character created by Tony Isabella & Trevor Von Eeden and starring Cress Williams, Nafessa Williams, China Anne McClain and Christine Adams. The show’s original music is composed by Kurt Farquhar (The King of Queens, Moesha, The Perfect Game, Stitchers). Premiering on Wednesday, January 17, is the FX original series The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story starring Darren Criss, Edgar Ramírez, Penelope Cruz and Ricky Martin. Mac Quayle (Mr. Robot, American Horror Story, Scream Queens) who previously scored the first American Crime Story season The People v. O.J. Simpson has composed the show’s original music.
