John Debney has taken over scoring duties on the upcoming comedy The Change-Up. Theodore Shapiro has originally been attached to write the music for the film as reported last month. The Change-Up is directed by David Dobkin (The Wedding Crashers) and stars Ryan Reynolds, Jason Bateman, Leslie Mann, Alan Arkin and Olivia Wilde. The movie tells the story of a married guy who accidentally changes bodies with his single best friend and ends up pursuing a female coworker. Since our last posting, a red band trailer for the film has arrived and can be watched below. The comedy will be released by Universal Pictures on August 5, 2011.

Weekly Film Music Roundup (April 8, 2011)
Four new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
The comedy Arthur directed by Jason Winer and starring Russell Brand, Helen Mirren, Jennifer Garner and Greta Gerwig features music by Theodore Shapiro. A soundtrack with songs from the movie has been released earlier this week by WaterTower Music. No word on a release of Shapiro’s score. Also coming out this week is the family drama Soul Surfer starring AnnaSophia Robb, Dennis Quaid and Helen Hunt. The film’s score is by Marco Beltrami and has been released by Madison Gate Records as reported here. The album can be downloaded on iTunes. A separate soundtrack with songs from the film has been released by Rhino Records this Tuesday.
Theodore Shapiro in Concert and Talking About ‘Arthur’
Theodore Shapiro is currently in Dallas, Texas for three concert performances of his music with the Dallas Symphonic Orchestra this weekend. The concert will include performances of suites from some of Shapiro’s best known scores (The Devil Wears Prada, Marley & Me, Tropic Thunder), as well as the world premiere of a new original concert piece called In Mitn Drinnen. Theodore Shapiro to Score ‘The Pirates! Band of Misfits’
Film Music Reporter has learned that composer Theodore Shapiro will make his animation scoring debut on the upcoming film The Pirates! Band of Misfits. The film’s story follows the fortunes of a cheerful but hapless pirate band as they cross the seven seas in search of adventure. The Aardman Animations-produced movie is directed by Peter Lord who is best known for his collaborations with Nick Park on the Wallace & Gromit series and the 2000 feature film Chicken Run, which he co-directed alongside Park. More recently, he also produced the Aardman Animations production Flushed Away and is involved in the upcoming animated film Arthur Christmas, which has Michael Giacchino attached to write the music. The Pirates! is co-directed by Jeff Newitt who previously worked as an animator on Aardman’s Chicken Run and Flushed Away. Not much is known about he project at this point, but it has been announced that The Pirates! will be created with the hand-crafted claymation/stop-motion technique that Aardman is known for and that the movie will be released in 3D.

The movie stars Ryan Reynolds, Jason Bateman, Leslie Mann, Alan Arkin and Olivia Wilde. The film is written by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore (The Hangover) and directed by David Dobkin. Dobkin previously worked together with composers Randy Edelman (Shanghai Knights), Rolfe Kent (The Wedding Crashers) and Christophe Beck (Fred Claus) on his previous movies. Universal Pictures will release The Change-Up on August 5, 2011.
Theodore Shapiro scoring ‘Arthur’
Film Music Reporter has learned that composer Theodore Shapiro is currently writing the score for the upcoming comedy Arthur. The movie directed by Jason Winer (Modern Family) is a remake of the 1981 film with the same title starring Dudley Moore and Liza Minnelli, which won Oscars for Moore and best screenplay. The original movie was scored by Burt Bacharach, who was Academy Award-nominated for his song “Arthur’s Theme (Best That You Can Do)”. The remake stars Russell Brand, Helen Mirren, Greta Gerwig, Jennifer Garner and Nick Nolte. Arthur centers around drunken playboy who stands to lose a wealthy inheritance when he falls for a woman his family doesn’t like. Warner Bros will release the movie on April 8, 2011.
Theodore Shapiro to score Dinner for Schmucks
Theodore Shapiro has been hired to score the upcoming comedy Dinner for Schmucks. In the movie, a rising executive succeeds in finding the perfect guest, an IRS employee, for his boss’s monthly event, a so-called “dinner for idiots,” which offers certain advantages to the exec who shows up with the biggest buffoon. The movie stars Steve Carell and Paul Rudd and is directed by Jay Roach (Austin Powers series, Meet the Parents, Meet the Fockers). Paramount Pictures will release the Dinner for Schmucks on July 23.
