Only one new movie is opening nationwide this weekend:
Guaranteed to top the weekend box office is the sci-fi action adventure Transformers: Age of Extinction directed by Michael Bay and starring Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer, Jack Reynor, Nicola Peltz, Sophia Myles, Bingbing Li, Titus Welliver and TJ Miller. The film’s original music is composed by Steve Jablonsky (Ender’s Game, Battleship) who previously scored Bay’s last five features, including the previous three Transformers movies. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score is expected to be announced soon. Imagine Dragons have written the original song Battle Cry for the film, which is now available to download as a single here. Opening in Los Angeles and New York before expanding nationwide is the musical comedy drama Begin Again written and directed by John Carney and starring Keira Knightley, Mark Ruffalo, Adam Levine, Hailee Steinfeld, James Corden, Ceelo Green and Catherine Keener. 222 Records in partnership with Interscope Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film written by Gregg Alexander, who also provided the film’s original score, as well as Danielle Brisebois, Nick Lashley, Nick Southwood, Rick Nowels, John Carney and Glen Hansard and performed by the film’s cast. Opening in most theaters is the fantasy comedy drama The Secret Life of Walter Mitty directed by Ben Stiller and starring himself, Kristen Wiig, Shirley MacLaine, Adam Scott, Kathryn Hahn and Sean Penn. The film’s original score is composed by Theodore Shapiro (Tropic Thunder, The Devil Wears Prada) and features vocals by Jose Gonzalez. Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music. 
Also opening this week is The Wolf of Wall Street directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill, Margot Robbie, Matthew McConaughey, Jon Favreau, Kyle Chandler, Rob Reiner, Jon Bernthal and Jean Dujardin. The film doesn’t feature any original score. Theodore Shapiro composed a couple of cues for the infomercials and ads featured in the movie. Virgin Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film by artists including Billy Joel, Bo Diddley, Elmore James, Eartha Kitt, Howlin’ Wolf, The Lemonheads, Cannonball Adderley and Joe Cuba. Metropolis Movie Music will release a soundtrack album for Peter Berg’s action drama Lone Survivor. The album features the film’s original music composed by Explosions in the Sky and Steve Jablonsky (Transformers, Ender’s Game). The post-rock band previously composed music for Berg’s Friday Night Lights and Jablonsky scored last year’s Battleship for the director. The soundtrack will be released digitally overseas on December 20, 2013 and in the U.S. on January 21, 2014. Visit 
Steve Jablonsky and Nathan Whitehead have signed on to compose the music for the upcoming TNT original series The Last Ship. Jablonsky is composing the main themes and Whitehead is providing the score for the show created by Hank Steinberg (Without a Trace) and Steven Kane (The Closer) and starring Eric Dane, Rhona Mitra, Adam Baldwin and Tracy Middendorf. The drama opens with a global catastrophe that nearly decimates the world’s population and follows the crew of a lone naval destroyer who must find a way to pull humanity from the brink of extinction. Michael Bay is producing the project with his Platinum Dunes partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form (A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Amityville Horror), alongside Steinberg and Kane.

Also opening wide is the animated feature Free Birds directed by Jimmy Haywardand featuring the voices of Woody Harrelson, Owen Wilson, Amy Poehler, Dan Fogler, Lesley Nicol, George Takei, Colm Meaney and Keith David. The film’s original music is composed by Dominic Lewis. Relativity Music Group has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as two songs by Social Distortion and MattyBRaps. Check out
