Branford Marsalis has recently composed the original score for the new HBO original movie The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. The film is directed by George C. Wolfe (Nights in Rodanthe, Lackawanna Blues) and stars Oprah Winfrey, Rose Byrne, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Rocky Carroll, Courtney B. Vance, Reg E. Cathey, Ruben Santiago-Hudson and Leslie Uggams. The movie is based on the book by Rebecca Skloot and tells the story of an African-American woman who becomes an unwitting pioneer for medical breakthroughs when her cells are used to create the first immortal human cell line in the early 1950s.

Julian Wass Scoring HBO’s ‘Room 104’
Julian Wass has been tapped to score the upcoming HBO original series Room 104. The show is created by Mark & Jay Duplass (Cyrus, Jeff Who Lives at Home). The anthology series tells a different story of a group of assorted characters who pass through the room of an average American hotel in each episode. The Duplass brothers are also executive producing the comedy with Xan Aranda (Blue Jay). Wass has previously collaborated with the filmmakers on the features The Do-Deca Pentathlon, which they directed, and The Overnight & Blue Jay, which they produced.
Soundtrack for HBO’s ‘Big Little Lies’ Announced
ABKCO Records has announced a soundtrack album for the HBO original series Big Little Lies. The album features songs from the show, including the opening title track Cold Little Heart by Michael Kiwanuka, as well as tracks by Charles Bradley, Alabama Shakes, Leon Bridges, cast member Zoë Kravitz & more. The soundtrack will be released digitally this Friday, March 31. The download link will be added to this article later this week. Big Little Lies is directed by Jean-Marc Vallee, executive produced and written by David E. Kelley and stars Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, Zoë Kravitz, Alexander Skårsgard, Adam Scott, James Tupper and Jeffrey Nordling.
Adrian Johnston Scoring BBC’s ‘Cormoran Strike’
Adrian Johnston has been tapped to score the upcoming BBC limited series Cormoran Strike. The show is based J.K. Rowling’s bestselling crime novels, which she wrote under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith, and stars Tom Burke and Holliday Grainger. The drama centers on a war veteran turned private detective operating out of a tiny office in London’s Denmark Street. The series comprises of The Cuckoo’s Calling, with three hour-long episodes and The Silkworm and Career of Evil, both with two hour-long episodes. Rowling is also executive producing the project with Neil Blair (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them), Ruth Kenley-Letts and Elizabeth Kilgarriff (Poldark, Call the Midwife).

Premiering tomorrow, March 13, is the documentary Cries from Syria directed by Evgeny Afineevsky. The film’s original music is composed by Martin Tillman (The Ring Two, Last Knights). Diane Warren contributed the original song Prayers for this World, which is performed by Cher and The West Los Angeles Children’s Choir. The movie explores the humanitarian crisis in Syria and the devastating civil war that has defined the country over the last five years. David Holmes to Score Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Logan Lucky’
David Holmes is reteaming with director Steven Soderbergh (Traffic, Erin Brockovich) on the upcoming comedy Logan Lucky. The film stars Daniel Craig, Channing Tatum, Hilary Swank, Katherine Heigl, Adam Driver, Sebastian Stan, Riley Keough, Katherine Waterston, Katie Holmes, David Denman, Jack Quaid and Seth MacFarlane. The movie follows two brothers as they set out to perform an elaborate robbery during a widely watched NASCAR race. Rebecca Blunt wrote the screenplay and Reid Carolin & Gregory Jacobs (Magic Mike, The Knick, Edge of Tomorrow) and Mark Johnson (Rain Man, The Chronicles of Narnia, Breaking Bad) are producing the project.

‘The Young Pope’ Score Album Relased
WM Italy has released a score album for the HBO mini-series The Young Pope. The album features the film’s original music composed by Lele Marchitelli (The Great Beauty). Also included is The Dream performed by opera singer Sumi Jo. The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio samples. As previously reported, Decca Records has released a separate soundtrack overseas featuring the songs and score for the show. The Young Pope is created and directed by Paolo Sorrentino and stars Jude Law, Diane Keaton, Silvio Orlando, Cécile de France, Ludivine Sagnier, Javier Cámara, Scott Shepherd, Toni Bertorelli and James Cromwell. The 10-parter tells the story of the beginning of the pontificate of Lenny Belardo, alias Pius XIII, the first American Pope in history.
