Aaron Zigman has composed the score for Nick Cassavetes’ upcoming indie drama Yellow. The movie stars Heather Wahlquist as a young substitute teacher who escapes from her drudging everyday life by fantasizing bizarre parallel realities. Sienna Miller, Gena Rowlands, Ray Liotta, David Morse, Lucy Punch, Max Theoriot, Riley Keough, Daveigh Chase and Melanie Griffith are also starring in the film. Wahlquist has also co-written the screenplay with Cassavetes and Manu Kumaran, Chris Hanley (American Psycho), Jordan Gertner (the upcoming Spring Breakers) are producing the independent production. Cassavetes has previously collaborated with Zigman on his last four features, including John Q, The Notebook, Alpha Dog and My Sister’s Keeper.

Two new movies are opening wide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the sci-fi comedy The Watch directed by Akiva Schaffer and starring Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, Rosemarie Dewitt and Richard Ayoade. Also opening wide is the dance movie Step Up Revolution directed by Scott Speer and starring Kathryn McCormick, Ryan Guzman and Stephen Boss. Aaron Zigman has composed the film’s score. Interscope Records has released a soundtrack including the songs featured in the movie by artists including Travis Parker, Timbaland, Fergie, Jennifer Lopez, M.I.A., Far East Movement, Sohanny and Vein, Diplo and My Name is Kay. Four new movies are opening wide in theaters this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the comedy Ted directed by Seth MacFarlane and starring Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, Giovanni Ribisi and Joel McHale. The film’s score is composed by Walter Murphy (Family Guy, American Dad). Universal Republic has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well the original song Everybody Needs a Best Friend performed by Norah Jones and tracks by Queen, Daphne, Hootie and the Blowfish, Rita Coolidge and Tiffany. Aaron Zigman to Score ‘Madea’s Witness Protection’ and NBC’s ‘Happy Valley’ Pilot
Aaron Zigman has been hired to score Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Witness Protection. The film is written and directed by Perry who also stars in the film alongside Eugene Levy, Doris Roberts, Tom Arnold, Denise Richards, Danielle Campbell, Devan Leos, Romeo, John Amos and Marla Gibbs. In the comedy, Levy plays a high level CFO at the center of a Ponzi scheme in New York City who is enrolled in the Witness Protection program along with his family in the one place that absolutely no one will think to look for them: Madea’s house down South. Ozzie Areu, President of Tyler Perry Studios, and Paul E. Hall are producing the film with Perry.
Aaron Zigman to Score ‘Step Up Revolution’
Aaron Zigman has been tapped to score the upcoming dance movie Step Up Revolution. The fourth movie in the Step Up series is directed by music video/commercials director Scott Speer and stars Kathryn McCormick, Ryan Guzman and Stephen Boss. The film follows the daughter of a wealthy businessman who arrives in Miami with aspirations of becoming a professional dancer, but soon falls in love with a young man who leads a dance crew in elaborate, cutting-edge flash mobs. Adam Shankman (Hairspray) is producing the film with Jennifer Gibgot (17 Again), Erik Feig (I Know What You Did Last Summer) and Patrick Wachsberger (Mr. & Mrs. Smith). Jon Chu who helmed the previous two films is executive producing. Zigman has previously scored the original Step Up film in 2006, as well as the 2008 sequel Step Up 2: The Streets, while Bear McCreary scored the third installment Step Up 3D in 2010.

Opening in most theaters is the war movie Act of Valor directed by Scott Waugh & Mike “Mouse” McCoy about a group of active-duty Navy SEALs that is sent across the globe as they track the terrorist ring to the U.S.-Mexico border. Relativity Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the film’s country songs by artists including Keith Urban, Sugarland and Lady Antebellum. Also opening wide is the thriller Gone directed by Heitor Dhalia and starring Amanda Seyfried, Daniel Dunjata, Jennifer Carpenter, Sebastian Stan and Wes Bentley. The film’s score is written by David Buckley (The Town, Forbidden Kingdom). Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score digitally earlier this week and the CD version is set to come out next month. Aaron Zigman to Score Tyler Perry’s ‘The Marriage Counselor’
Aaron Zigman has signed on to score the upcoming comedy drama The Marriage Counselor. The film is written and directed by Tyler Perry and stars Jurnee Smollett as an Ivy League educated relationship expert who gives marital advice for a living, yet can’t seem to follow that advice in her own marriage. The cast also includes Lance Gross, Kim Kardashian, Vanessa Williams, Brandy Norwood, Robbie Jones, Ella Joyce and Jerry Stiller. Paul Hall and Ozzie Areu, both regular collaborators of the filmmaker are producing the movie. Zigman has become Perry’s composer of choice for his feature projects over the last couple of years.

Four new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Jim Sheridan’s horror thriller Dream House starring Daniel Craig, Rachel Weisz and Naomi Watts features an original score by composer John Debney. Varese Sarabande will release a soundtrack CD including Debney’s score on October 11. The album is also already available to download on iTunes. Also opening wide is the comedy drama 50/50 directed by Jonathan Levine and starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen, Anjelica Huston, Anna Kendrick and Bryce Dallas Howard. The score from the movie is composed by Michael Giacchino. No soundtrack album has been announced so far. Opening in most theaters is the action thriller Drive directed by Nicolas Winding Refn and starring Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Christina Hendricks, Albert Brooks, Bryan Cranston, Ron Perlman and Oscar Isaacs. The film’s score is written by Cliff Martinez. A soundtrack featuring the composer’s score, as well as several songs from the movie has been released on Lakeshore Records. ‘I Don’t Know How She Does It’ Score Album Announced
Lakeshore Records has announced a score album for the romantic comedy I Don’t Know How She Does It. The score is composed by Aaron Zigman (The Notebook, John Q, the Sex and the City movies). The soundtrack will be released digitally on September 20, 2011 and a CD is coming out on October 18. Check back for audio clips to be added to this article within the next two weeks. A separate soundtrack with songs from the movie has previously been announced as reported here. I Don’t Know How She Does It is directed by Douglas McGrath and stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Pierce Brosnan, Greg Kinnear, Christina Hendricks, Kelsey Grammer, Seth Meyers and Olivia Munn.
