Heather McIntosh has signed on to score the upcoming sci-fi thriller Z for Zachariah. The film is directed by Craig Zobel and stars Chris Pine, Margot Robbie and Chiwetel Ejiofor. The movie based on the novel by Robert O’Brien of the same title is set in a post-apocalyptic world and follows a young woman who lives on a farm believing she is the last of the human race and whose world is turned upside down when two strangers wander in from the forest. Nissar Modi has written the Black List-honored screenplay. Tobey Maguire & Matthew Plouffe are producing the project for Material Pictures, alongside Skuli Malmquist & Thor Sigurjonsson for Zik Zak Filmworks and Joni Sighvatsson (Brothers, K-19: The Widowmaker) for Palomar Pictures. ‘Heaven is for Real’ Soundtrack Released

Reunion Records has released a soundtrack album for the drama Heaven is for Real. The album features ten songs inspired by the film and the bestselling book by Christian music artists such as Casting Crowns, Third Day, Steven Curtis Chapman, and more. The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon. Audio clips are available after the jump. Nick Glennie-Smith (The Man in the Iron Mask, We Were Soldiers, Secretariat) has composed the film’s original score. No word yet on a release of his music. Heaven is for Real is directed by Randall Wallace and stars Greg Kinnear, Kelly Reilly, Connor Corum, Margo Martindale, and Thomas Haden Church. The movie follows a real-life couple whose son claims to have visited Heaven during a near death experience. The drama will be released nationwide on April 16, 2014 by Sony Pictures. Starz has announced today that 50 Cent has recorded the main titles theme for the upcoming drama Power. The track, which is entitled Big Rich Town and was created specifically for the show, has been released today and is now available to download on Amazon. The song is performed by 50 Cent who serves as an executive producer on the series and also features vocals of Grammy Award-nominated R&B singer Joe. La-La Land Records will release a soundtrack album for Errol Morris’ documentary The Unknown Known. The album features the film’s original music composed by Danny Elfman (Spider-Man, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Alice in Wonderland, Batman) who previously collaborated with the documentarian on 2008′s Standard Operating Procedure. The physical version of the soundtrack is now available for pre-order on Amazon and the digital version is available to download here. Audio clips are embedded after the jump. The Unknown Known draws on hours of filmed interviews and previously unpublished material from Donald Rumsfeld’s private archive and looks at the former United States Secretary of Defense’s role in American history from Watergate to 9/11. ‘King of Devil’s Island’ Soundtrack Announced

Caldera Records has announced a soundtrack release for the 2010 Norwegian drama King of Devil’s Island. The album features the film’s original music composed by Johan Söderqvist (Let the Right One In, Kon-Tiki). The soundtrack is now available to order from overseas. King of Devil’s Island is directed by Marius Holst and stars Stellan Skarsgård, Benjamin Helstad and Kristoffer Joner. The drama tells the true story of a group of teenagers who are prisoners on the Norwegian island Bastoy and who start to rebel against the authorities. Ibero-American Film Industry Launches Platino Awards

This past Saturday, the first Platino Ibero-American Film Awards were held Saturday in Panama City. In the Best Original Score category, Emilio Kauderer was honored for his music for the animated feature Foosball directed by Juan Jose Campanella, which was recently picked up by the Weinstein Company for a domestic release this summer under the title Underdogs. Composer Lucas Vidal (Fast & Furious 6, The Quiet Ones) and Grammy-nominated singer and actress Natalia Oreiro presented the music category. Mychael Danna to Receive BMI’s Richard Kirk Award

Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) has announced today that Mychael Danna will be honored with the Richard Kirk Award for outstanding career achievement at this year’s BMI Film & Television Awards. The composer who is recognized for his evocative blending of non-western traditions with orchestral and electronic music received his first Academy Awardin 2013 for his score for Ang Lee’s Life of Pi and was also nominated for the original song Pi’s Lullaby. Danna started his film scoring career with Atom Egoyan and composed the music for all of the director’s films since 1987, including such titles as The Sweet Hereafter, Exotica and Felicia’s Journey. The composer also collaborated multiple times with directors including Bennett Miller (Moneyball, Capote, Foxcatcher), Terry Gilliam (The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Tideland), Billy Ray (Breach, Shattered Glass) and Mira Nair (Monsoon Wedding, Vanity Fair).
