Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

hot-tub-2Opening in most theaters is the comedy sequel Hot Tub Time Machine 2 directed by Steve Pink and starring Rob Corddry, Craig Robinsoin, Clark Duke, Adam Scott and Gillian Jacobs. The film’s original music is composed by Christophe Beck (Frozen, The Hangover, Edge of Tomorrow, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) who previously scored the first part in the series. No soundtrack album has been announced. Hot Tub Time Machine 2 follows Lou, Nick and Jacob who inadvertently land in the future with Adam Jr. and have to alter the future in order to save the past. mcfarland-usaAlso opening wide is the sports drama McFarland, USA directed by Niki Caro and starring Kevin Costner, Maria Bello, Morgan Saylor, Martha Higareda, Michael Aguero, Sergio Avelar, Hector Duran, Rafael Martinez, Johnny Ortiz and Carlos Pratts. Antonio Pinto (City of GodSennaLord of WarSnitch) has composed the film’s original score. Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as the original end title song Juntos (Together) performed by Juanes. kidnapping-freddy-heinekenMetropolis Movie Music will release a soundtrack album for the thriller Kidnapping Mr. Heineken. The album features the film’s original music composed by Lucas Vidal (Fast & Furious 6, The Raven, The Quiet OnesThe Cold Light of Day). The soundtrack will be released digitally on March 6, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio clips. Kidnapping Mr. Heineken is directed by Daniel Alfredson and stars Anthony Hopkins, Jim Sturgess, Sam Worthington and Ryan Kwanten. The movie chronicles the 1983 kidnapping of Dutch beer magnate Freddy Heineken and his driver Ab Doderer who were released after payment of a record ransom of 35 million Dutch guilders. zhong-kuiLakeshore Records has announced a soundtrack album for the Chinese 3D fantasy adventure Zhong Kui: Snow Girl and the Dark Crystal. The album features the film’s original music written by Academy Award-nominated composer Javier Navarrete (Pan’s LabyrinthWrath of the TitansMirrorsInkheart). The film is directed by Anne Fletcher (The Proposal, 27 Dresses) and stars Reese Witherspoon, Sofia Vergara and Michael Mosley. The movie follows apolice officer trying to protect a drug boss’s widow as they race through Texas pursued by crooked cops and gunmen. David Feeney (New Girl, 2 Broke Girls) and John Quaintance (Material Girls, Aquamarine) have written the screenplay. Dana Fox (What Happens in Vegas, Couples Retreat) is producing the Metro-Goldwayn-Mayer (MGM) production with Witherspoon and Bruna Papandrea (Wild, Warm Bodies) for their Pacific Standard production company. The album features the film’s original music composed by Rael Jones, as well as songs performed by Lucienne Boyer, Josephine Baker, Rosita Serrano & more. Alexandre Desplat has composed Bruno’s Piano Piece. The soundtrack will be released overseas on March 16, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Suite Francaise is directed by Saul Dibb (The Duchess) and stars Michelle Williams, Matthias Schoenaerts, Kristin Scott Thomas, Margot Robbie, Alexandra Maria Lara, Sam Riley, Ruth Wilson, Tom Schilling and Lambert Wilson. unbreakable-kimmy-schmidtJeff Richmond is composing the score for the new Netflix original comedy Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. The show is created by Tina Fey & Robert Karlock (30 Rock) and stars Ellie Kemper, Jane Krakowski, Tituss Burgess, Lauren Adams, Sara Chase, Sol Miranda and Carol Kane. The series follows a young woman who, after living in a cult for fifteen years, decides to reclaim her life and start over in New York City and quickly finds a new job, a new roommate and a new beginning. Fey & Karlock are also executive producing the Universal Television production, which was originally developed for NBC, with Richmond, Jack Burditt (The Mindy ProjectLast Man Standing) and David Miner (Parks and RecreationBrooklyn Nine-Nine). keep-on-keepin-onVarese Sarabande will release a soundtrack album for the documentary Keep On Keepin’ On. The album features the music from the film by Clark Terry, including his performances with Duke Ellington, Oscar Peterson, Count Basie and Quincy Jones. Also included is dialogue from the movie and new compositions from Terry’s protege, Justin Kauflin and additional music by Academy Award winner Dave Grusin (The Goonies, Tootsie, The Firm). The soundtrack will be released on February 24, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Keep On Keepin’ On is directed by Australian filmmaker Alan Hicks who spent four years following the mentorship between jazz-legend Clark Terry and Kauflin, a blind piano prodigy, during a pivotal moment in each of their lives. bonoBono is writing an original song to be performed by country singer Willie Nelson for the upcoming drama Waiting for the Miracle to Come. The movie marks the narrative feature directorial debut of Lian Lunson (Leonard Cohen: I’m Your Man) and also stars Nelson alongside Charlotte Rampling and Sophie Lowe. The movie follows an aspiring trapeze artist who discovers a cryptic letter her recently deceased father once wrote directing her to a gold mine in a remote California desert. Lunson’s Horse Pictures, Molly Mayeux and Terence Berry (That Evening Sun) are producing the project with Fabrica de Cine’s Gaston Pavlovich (Martin Scorsese’s upcoming Silence). Trevor Rabin Scoring Boaz Yakin’s ‘Max’

The movie starring Josh Wiggins, Thomas Haden Church, Lauren Graham and Robbie Amell follows a wayward teen who befriends the military dog that was partnered to his older brother, a US Marine killed in action in Afghanistan. Yakin (Now You See Me, Safe, Fresh) has also written the screenplay with Sheldon Lettich (Lionheart, Bloodsport). Karen Rosenfelt (The Twilight Saga, Marley & Me, Percy Jackson series) and Ken Blancato are producing the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) production. Read the rest of this entry »

Soundtrack for Fox’s ‘Empire’ Announced

empireColumbia Records will release a soundtrack album for the Fox hit drama Empire. The album features songs from the show by cast members including Jussie Smollett (Jamal Lyon) and Bryshere Gray a.k.a. Yazz (Hakeem Lyon), alongside Terrence Howard (Lucious Lyon) and guest stars Courtney Love, Juicy J, Jennifer Hudson, Estelle, Mary J. Blige and Rita Ora. The soundtrack will be released on March 10, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. A digital version featuring seven additional tracks will also be released on the same date and is available for pre-order on iTunes.
