Last night, Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) held its annual Film & TV Awards at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills. James Newton Howard was honored with the organization’s Icon Award, which is bestowed on composers who have made significant contributions to the realm of film and television music. The composer whose credits include such hit films as The Hunger Games series, The Fugitive, Pretty Woman, Maleficent, Blood Diamond, The Dark Knight, Space Jam and My Best Friend’s Wedding was presented the award by the evening’s host, BMI Vice President, Film/TV Relations, Doreen Ringer-Ross and BMI President & CEO Mike O’Neill. ‘The Angry Birds Movie’ Score Album Details

Atco Records will release a score album album for the animated feature The Angry Birds Movie. The album features the film’s original music composed by Heitor Pereira (Despicable Me series, Minions, The Smurfs, Beverly Hills Chihuahua). The soundtrack will be released digitally on May 13, 2016 and physically on June 3. Visit Amazon to pre-order the album. The show is created by Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies) & Michael Green (Green Lantern) based on Neil Gaiman’s fantasy novel and stars Rickey Whittle, Ian McShane, Emily Browning, Jonathan Tucker, Crispin Glover, Cloris Leachman, Pablo Schreiber, Peter Stormare, Yetide Badaki, Bruce Langley, Chris Obi and Mousa Kraish. Steven Spielberg to Present John Williams with AFI’s Lifetime Achievement Award

The American Film Institute (AFI) announced today that Steven Spielberg will present John Williams with the organization’s 44th Life Achievement Award on June 9, 2016, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, CA. As previously reported, this marks the first time in AFI history that the honor will be bestowed upon a composer. It was also announced that the televised special, AFI Life Achievement Award: A Tribute to John Williams, will air on TNT on Wednesday, June 15 (10 p.m. ET/ PT), followed by an encore presentation on sister network Turner Classic Movies (TCM) on Monday, June 12, during a night of programming dedicated to Williams.

Bruno Coulais is scoring the upcoming biographical drama Marie Curie. The film is directed by Marie Noelle (The Anarchist’s Wife) and stars Karolina Gruszka in the title role, alongside Charles Berling, André Wilms, Samuel Finzi, Daniel Olbrychski and Sabin Tambrea. The movie tells the life story of Curie, the first-ever woman to win a Nobel Prize for her achievements in physics in 1903 and who later won another Nobel prize in chemistry in 1911.
