Brian Reitzell has been tapped to score the second season of the National Geographic original series Mars. The show is created by Ben Young Mason & Justin Wilkes and stars JiHAE, Sammi Rotibi, Alberto Ammann, Clémentine Poidatz, Anamaria Marinca and Cosima Shaw. They are joined by new cast members Esai Morales, Roxy Sternberg, Gunnar Cauthery, Levi Fiehler, Evan Hall, Akbar Kurtha and Jeff Hephner. The second season of the drama jumps ahead several years into the future after the Daedalus astronauts have built a full-fledged colony called Olympus Town.

‘Genius’ Soundtrack Album to Be Released
Milan Records will release the first full soundtrack album for the Nat Geo original series Genius. The album features selections from the original music of the show’s first season composed by Lorne Balfe (The LEGO Batman Movie, Home, Terminator Genisys, Marcella). Listen to a track from the album after the jump. The label has previously released a soundtrack EP featuring Balfe’s score, Hans Zimmer’s main title theme and three classical pieces. The soundtrack will be released digitally on June 23 and will be available to download here. The CD version is set to come out on July 28 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Genius is developed by Noah Pink & Ken Biller, executive produced by Ron Howard & Brian Grazer and stars Geoffrey Rush, Johnny Flynn, Emily Watson, Nicholas Rowe, Samantha Colley, Jon Fletcher, Richard Topol and Alicia von Rittberg.
Soundrack EP for National Geographic’s ‘Genius’ To Be Released
Milan Records will release an EP for the Nat Geo’s first scripted series, Genius. The album features the show’s main title theme written by Hans Zimmer (The Dark Knight, Gladiator, The Lion King, Inception) and selections from the show’s original music composed by Lorne Balfe (The LEGO Batman Movie, Home, Terminator Genisys, Ghost in the Shell). Also included are three classical pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Genius is executive produced by Brian Grazer and Ron Howard (who also directed the first episode) and stars Geoffrey Rush, Johnny Flynn, Emily Watson, Nicholas Rowe, Samantha Colley, Jon Fletcher, Richard Topol and Alicia von Rittberg. The show’s first season follows the life of Albert Einstein, from his early years as a patent clerk, to his later years as a physicist who developed the theory of relativity.
Lorne Balfe to Score Nat Geo’s ‘Genius’
Lorne Balfe has been hired to score the National Geographic Channel’s first scripted series Genius. The show’s first season is based on Walter Isaacson’s book Einstein: His Life and Universe and stars Geoffrey Rush as Albert Einstein. Ron Howard (Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind, Backdraft) is directing the first episode of the drama, which chronicles how an imaginative, rebellious patent clerk, who couldn’t get a teaching job or a doctorate, unlocked the mysteries of the atom and the universe. Johnny Flynn co-stars as Einstein in the years before he rose to international attention and acclaim. Noah Pink has adapted Isaacson’s book for the Fox 21 Television production.

Hans Zimmer to Compose Main Theme for Nat Geo’s ‘Saints & Strangers’
National Geographic Channel announced at a panel yesterday at the Television Critics Association summer tour that Hans Zimmer will be composing the main theme for network’s upcoming event series Saints & Strangers. The score will be composed by Bleeding Fingers Music, a collaboration between Zimmer and Extreme Music. Saints & Strangers is created by Eric Overmyer (Bosch, Treme, The Affair) and tells the story behind the founding of America, chronicling the trials and tribulations of the 101 men, women and children who boarded the Mayflower for a one-way trip to the New World in 1620.

Trevor Morris has been tapped to score the National Geographic Channel television event Killing Jesus. The movie is directed by Christopher Menaul (Summer in February, The Forsyte Saga) and stars Kelsey Grammer, Stephen Moyer, Emmanuelle Chriqui, John Rhys Davies, Rufus Sewell, Eoin Macken, Aneurin Barnard, Vernon Dobtcheff, Tamsin Egerton and John Lynch. The three-hour event is based on the best-selling book by Bill O’Reilly and chronicles the life of Jesus of Nazareth through the retelling of the political, social and historical conflicts during the Roman Empire that ultimately led to his death. Walon Green (The Wild Bunch, Eraser) has written the script. O’Reilly is also executive producing the project with Ridley Scott & David Zucker (The Good Wife, Numb3rs) for Scott Free Productions, Mary Lisio (Killing Kennedy), Teri Weinberg (The Tudors), Charlie Parsons (Survivor) and Heather Moran.
