The experimental band The Octopus Project is reteaming with directors David & Nathan Zellner on the upcoming sci-fi comedy Alpha Gang. The film is written by David Zellner and stars Cate Blanchett, Chris Pine, Dave Bautista, Lily-Rose Depp, Léa Seydoux, Adria Arjona, Riley Keough, Doona Bae and Kelvin Harrison Jr. The movie follows the titular group of humanoid aliens who disguise themselves as 1950s bikers to invade Earth, but their conquest plan derails when they experience human emotions, complicating their mission. The directors are also producing the project for ZBi, alongside Blanchett & Coco Francini (Mrs. America, Fingernails) for Dirty Films, Keough & Gina Gammell (Under the Bridge, War Pony) for Felix Culpa, Ryan Zacarias (If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, A Chiara) for Fat City, Andrea Bucko (Dead Man’s Wire, On Our Way) for Sugar Rush Pictures, Mary Aloe (Mary, Karen) for Aloe Entertainment and Joshua Harris (Idiots, Motor City) for Peachtree Media Partners. The band has previously scored the Zellner Brothers’ previous three features, Kumiko, The Treasure Hunter, Damsel & Sasquatch Sunset. Alpha Gang is expected to premiere at this year’s Venice Film Festival and will make its North American premiere at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival.

The Octopus Project have also recently scored the Netflix series The Hawk, which is premiering today.
