The only movie opening nationwide this weekend is the music-themed drama The Identical directed by Dustin Marcellino and starring Erin Cottrell, Amanda Crew, Brian Geraghty, Seth Green, Ashley Judd, Joe Pantoliano, Blake Rayne, and Ray Liotta. Klaus Badelt (Pirates of the Caribbean, Constantine, Rescue Dawn) and Christopher Carmichael have composed the film’s original score. City of Peace Media and Capitol Christian Distribution have released a soundtrack album featuring five tracks from the composers’ score, as well as the songs from the film performed by lead actor Blake Rayne, The Morph Kings and Darcey & Mo. Opening in limited release is the indie comedy drama Kelly & Cal directed by Jen McGowan and starring Juliette Lewis, Cybill Shepherd and Jonny Weston. The film’s original music is composed by Toby Chu (Covert Affairs, Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return). No soundtrack album has been announced. The movie centers on the relationship between a suburban-trapped mother and a wheelchair-bound young man who brings out her former self. The dramedy premiered at this year’s SXSW Film Festival and was picked up by IFC Films for domestic distribution. Nathan Whitehead is reteaming with director James DeMonaco on the upcoming thriller sequel The Purge 2. The film stars Frank Grillo, Michael K. Williams, Zach Gilford, Carmen Ejogo and Kiele Sanchez. No plot details have been revealed yet, but the movie is reportedly taking place in a similar setting to the original, where, once a year, there’s a 12-hour period when all crime is allowed and condoned. DeMonaco is also writing the screenplay and Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity, Sinister, Insidious) is once again producing the Blumhouse production with Sebastien Lemercier and Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes company. Whitehead has previously scored 
Steve Jablonsky and Nathan Whitehead have signed on to compose the music for the upcoming TNT original series The Last Ship. Jablonsky is composing the main themes and Whitehead is providing the score for the show created by Hank Steinberg (Without a Trace) and Steven Kane (The Closer) and starring Eric Dane, Rhona Mitra, Adam Baldwin and Tracy Middendorf. The drama opens with a global catastrophe that nearly decimates the world’s population and follows the crew of a lone naval destroyer who must find a way to pull humanity from the brink of extinction. Michael Bay is producing the project with his Platinum Dunes partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form (A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Amityville Horror), alongside Steinberg and Kane.

Also opening wide is the comedy The Internship directed by Shawn Levy and starring Vince Vaughn, Owen Wilson, Rose Byrne and Max Minghella. Christophe Beck (The Hangover, The Muppets) who has previously collaborated with Levy on such films as Cheaper by the Dozen, The Pink Panther and Date Night has composed the film’s original score. No soundtrack album has been announced at this point. The comedy follows two salesmen whose careers have been torpedoed by the digital world and who talk their way into a coveted internship at Google. Back Lot Music will release the soundtrack album for Universal Pictures’ speculative thriller The Purge. The album features the film’s original music composed by Nathan Whitehead who has previously contributed music and arrangements to such projects as Desperate Housewives, Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Gears of War: Judgment. The soundtrack will be released on June 4, 2013. Audio clips will be added to this article within the next few weeks. The Purge (originally entitled
