Miles of Lions Records has released a score album for Zach Braff’s indie dramedy Wish I Was Here. The soundtrack features the film’s original score composed by Rob Simonsen (The Spectacular Now, (500) Days of Summer, The Way Way Back). The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon and iTunes, where you can also listen to audio clips. Also watch a video featuring Simonsen performing his theme from the score on the piano below. Columbia Records has previously released a separate soundtrack featuring the songs from the film. Wish I Was Here stars Zach Braff, Kate Hudson, Joey King, Jim Parsons, Ashley Green, Mandy Patinkin and Josh Gad. The Kickstarter-funded film written and directed by Braff follows a thirtysomething man who finds himself at major crossroads, which forces him to examine his life, his career, and his family.

Weekly Film Music Roundup (July 18, 2014)
Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the animated sequel Planes: Fire & Rescue directed by Bobs Gannaway and featuring the voices of Dane Cook, Julie Bowen, Stacy Keach, Brad Garrett, Danny Mann, Teri Hatcher and Ed Harris. Mark Mancina (Tarzan, Twister, Brother Bear, Speed) who previously scored last year’s original film has composed the film’s original score. Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as the original song Still I Fly performed by Spencer Lee and three songs by Brad Paisley. Also opening wide is the thriller sequel The Purge: Anarchy written and directed by James DeMonaco and starring Zach Gilford, Michael Williams, Kiele Sanchez, Frank Grillo and Carmen Ejogoro. The film’s original music is composed by Nathan Whitehead who also scored last year’s original film. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. Soundtrack for Zach Braff’s ‘Wish I Was Here’ Announced
Columbia Records has announced a soundtrack album for Zach Braff’s indie comedy drama Wish I Was Here. The album features exclusive new songs from The Shins, Bon Iver and Cat Power + Coldplay. Also featured are tracks by Baldy Drawn Boy, Paul Simon, Gary Jules, Allie Moss & more. The soundtrack will be released digitally and physically on July 15, 2014. A special 12″ double gatefold, 180 gram vinyl version will be released on August 5. Click here to pre-order the vinyl version. Wish I Was Here is written and directed by Braff who also stars in the film alongside Kate Hudson, Joey King, Jim Parsons, Ashley Green, Mandy Patinkin and Josh Gad. The dramedy premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and will be released in theaters on July 18 by Focus Features.
Rob Simonsen Scoring Zach Braff’s ‘Wish I Was Here’
Rob Simonsen has been tapped to score the upcoming Kickstarter-funded drama Wish I Was Here. The movie marks Zach Braff’s second directorial feature following the indie hit Garden State and stars himself, as well as Kate Hudson, Mandy Patinkin, Ashley Greene, Jim Parsons and Josh Gad. The film centers on a struggling actor, husband and father who is trying to find his identity and purpose in his mid-30s and winds up trying to home school his two children when his father can no longer afford to pay for private education. Braff has also co-written the screenplay with his brother Adam. Stacey Sher (Erin Brockovich, Django Unchained) and Michael Shamberg (Contagion, Get Shorty) are producing the project for their Double Feature Films production company.
