Weekly Film Music Roundup (May 20, 2016)

Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the animated feature The Angry Birds Movie directed by Fergal Reilly & Clay Kaytis and starring Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Danny McBride, Maya Rudolph, Bill Hader, Peter Dinklage, Kate McKinnon and Keegan-Michael Key. The film’s original music is composed by Heitor Pereira (Despicable Me, Minions, The Smurfs). Atlantic Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film, as well as a separate soundtrack featuring Pereira’s score. Also opening wide is the comedy sequel Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising directed by Nicholas Stoller and starring Seth Rogen, Zac Efron, Rose Byrne, Chloë Grace Moretz, Dave Franco, Ike Barinholtz, Carla Gallo, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Kiersey Clemons and Beanie Feldstein. Michael Andrews (Bridesmaids, Donnie Darko, Bad Teacher, Funny People) who previously scored the 2014 original film has composed the film’s original score. Back Lot Music has released two songs from the film, Black Skinhead by Jacques Slade, THURZ & El Prez, and Party in My Pants by Kill the Giant. Check out our previous article for more information.

Michael Andrews Scoring ‘Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising’

Michael Andrews is composing the score for the upcoming comedy sequel Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising. The film is directed by Nicholas Stoller (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him to the Greek) and stars Seth Rogen, Zac Efron, Rose Byrne, Chloë Grace Moretz, Dave Franco, Ike Barinholtz, Carla Gallo, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Kiersey Clemons and Beanie Feldstein. The movie follows Mac and Kelly who have a second baby on the way and learn that the new occupants next door are a sorority even more out of control than the frat boys they dealt with in the original movie. Rogen and Stoller have written the screenplay with Evan Goldberg and Andrew Jay Cohen. Rogen & Goldberg (This Is the End, The Interview) are also producing the project with James Weaver (The Night Before).

Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is Disney’s new film adaptation of The Jungle Book directed by Jon Favreau and starring Bill Murray, Ben Kingsley, Idris Elba, Lupita Nyongo’o, Scarlett Johansson, Giancarlo Esposito, Neel Sethi and Christopher Walken. The film’s original music is composed by John Debney (The Passion of the Christ, Elf, Iron Man 2). Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the songs from the movie. Click here for the full album details. Also opening wide is the action thriller Criminal directed by Ariel Vromen and starring Kevin Costner, Gary Oldman, Tommy Lee Jones, Alice Eve, Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot. Brian Tyler (Avengers: Age of Ultron, Iron Man 3, Furious 7) and Keith Power (Hawaii Five-0) have composed the film’s original music. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score, as well as the original song Drift and Fall Again performed by Madsonik featuring Lola Marsh. ‘The Adderall Diaries’ Soundtrack Announced

Position Music will release a soundtrack album for the indie thriller The Adderall Diaries. The album features the film’s original score composed by Michael Andrews (Bridesmaids, Neighbors, Bad Teacher, Freaks and Geeks, Donnie Darko). The soundtrack will be released digitally on April 15, 2016 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio samples. The Adderall Diaries is directed by Pamela Romanowsky and stars James Franco, Amber Heard, Ed Harris, Christian Slater and Cynthia Nixon. The movie is based on the memoir by Stephen Elliott and centers on the gripping account of a young man navigating the unstable terrain of truth and identity.

Michael Andrews Scoring Jodie Foster’s ‘Money Monster’

Michael Andrews is composing the music for the upcoming dramatic thriller Money Monster. The film is directed by Jodie Foster (Little Man Tate, The Beaver) and stars George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Jack O’Connell, Dominic West, Giancarlo Esposito and Caitriona Balfe. The movie follows a bombastic television stock huckster whose program and life are taken hostage by an outraged gunman. Alan DiFiore, Jim Kouf (National Treasure, Rush Hour) and Jamie Linden (We Are Marshall, Dear John) have written the screenplay. Clooney is also producing the project with Grant Heslov (Argo, Good Night and Good Luck, The Ides of March), Daniel Dubiecki (Up in the Air) and Lara Alameddine.

The film’s original score is composed by Michael Andrews (Neighbors, Bridesmaids, Freaks and Geeks, Daddy’s Home). No soundtrack album has been released (a release was originally scheduled by Varese Sarabande). Dirty Grandpa follows an uptight groom who, days before his wedding, is tricked into driving his vulgar former Army general to Florida for spring break. The comedy is being released by Lionsgate. The movie follows a mild-mannered radio executive who strives to become the best stepdad to his wife’s two children, but complications ensue when their freewheeling and freeloading real father arrives. Brian Burns (Entourage, Blue Bloods) wrote the screenplay with revisions by Anders & Morris, Chris Henchy (The Other Guys, The Campaign) & Adam McKay (Anchorman, Talladega Nights) and Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder, Get Hard).

Michael Andrews Scoring Mark Polish’s ‘Headlock’

Michael Andrews is the composer of the upcoming thriller Headlock. The film marks the feature directorial debut of actor/screenwriter/producer Mark Polish (The Astronaut Farmer, Nortfork) and stars himself, alongside Dianna Agron, Andy Garcia and Justin Bartha. The movie follows a new CIA recruit who is seriously injured during a mission, surviving only on life support, and his wife, a former CIA operative who becomes determined to find out what happened to her husband. Polish has also written the screenplay. Michael Benaroya (Lawless, Margin Call, Kill Your Darlings) is producing the project for Benaroya Pictures, alongside Janet Du Bois (Stay Cool, The Smell of Success).
