Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

dirty-grandpaOpening in most theaters is the comedy Dirty Grandpa directed by Dan Mazer and starring Robert De Niro, Zac Efron, Aubrey Plaza, Zoey Deutch, Julianne Hough, Jason Mantzoukas, Danny Glover, Adam Pally and Dermot Mulroney. The film’s original score is composed by Michael Andrews (Neighbors, Bridesmaids, Freaks and Geeks, Daddy’s Home). No soundtrack album has been released (a release was originally scheduled by Varese Sarabande). Dirty Grandpa follows an uptight groom who, days before his wedding, is tricked into driving his vulgar former Army general to Florida for spring break. the-boyAlso opening wide is the horror thriller The Boy directed by William Brent Bell and starring Lauren Cohan and Rupert Evans. Bear McCreary (The Walking DeadBattlestar GalacticaAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D.OutlanderThe Forest) has composed the film’s original music. the-5th-waveThe third wide release of the week is the post-apocalyptic action adventure The 5th Wave directed by J Blakeson and starring Chloe Grace Moretz, Nick Robinson, Ron Livingston, Maggie Siff, Alex Roe, Maria Bello, Maika Monroe and Liev Schreiber. The film’s original music is composed by Henry Jackman  (Captain America: The Winter SoldierWreck-It-RalphX-Men: First ClassBig Hero 6). Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music. mojaveOpening in limited release is the thriller Mojave written and directed by William Monahan and starring Oscar Isaac, Garrett Hedlund, Louise Bourgoin and Walton Goggins. Andrew Hewitt (The Stanford Prison ExperimentThe DoubleSubmarine) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced. Mojave follows a near-suicidal artist who escapes into the desert to take an existential crisis head-on, only to encounter a doppelganger-like antagonist in the form of a brilliant, homicidal drifter. synchronicityAlso opening in limited release is the sci-fi thriller Synchronicity written and directed by Jacob Gentry and starring Chad McKnight, AJ Bowen, Brianne Davis, Scott Poythress and Michael Ironside. The film’s original music is composed by Ben Lovett (Black RockDon Peyote). Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. exposedAlso opening in select markets is the dramatic thriller Exposed  directed by Gee Malik Linton and starring Keanu Reeves, Ana de Armas, Mira Sorvino, Christopher McDonald, Big Daddy Kane, Michael Rispoli and Laura Gomez. Carlos José Alvarez (Deadline) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced. Exposed follows a police detective searching for the truth behind his partner’s death, while a Latina woman is witnessing a miracle. The thriller is being released in select theaters and on VOD by Lionsgate Premiere.

monster-huntAnother limited release this week is the Chinese 3D fantasy adventure Monster Hunt directed by Raman Hui and starring Bai Baihe, Jing Boran, Jiang Wu and Elaine Jin. The film’s original music composed by Leon Ko (The Warlords). Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score.
