Ennio Morricone has received his sixth BAFTA Award for his score for Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight in the Original Music category. Morricone previously won the BAFTA Award for Days of Heaven, Once Upon a Time in America, The Mission, The Untouchables and Cinema Paradiso. He was nominated alongside Thomas Newman (Bridge of Spies), Johann Johannsson (Sicario), Ryuichi Sakamoto & Alva Noto (The Revenant) and John Williams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens).

Ennio Morricone was honored with the Critics’ Choice Movie Award in the Best Score category for his music for Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight at tonight’s 21st Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards ceremony in Los Angeles. The other composers nominated in the Best Score category were Carter Burwell for Sicario, Ryuichi Sakamoto & Alva Noto for The Revenant, Johann Johannsson for Sicario and Howard Shore for Spotlight.
Ennio Morricone Wins Golden Globe for ‘The Hateful Eight’
Ennio Morricone has received his third Golden Globe Award for his score for Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight. Tarantino accepted the award on Morricone’s behalf. The composer previously received the prize for his work on The Mission and The Legend of 1900. The other composers nominated in the Best Original Score category were Alexandre Desplat (The Danish Girl), Carter Burwell (Carol), Daniel Pemberton (Steve Jobs) and Ryuichi Sakamoto & Alva Noto (The Revenant).

Four new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the comedy Daddy’s Home directed by Sean Anders and starring Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, Linda Cardellini, Thomas Haden Church and Hannibal Buress. The film’s original music is composed by Michael Andrews (Donnie Darko, Bridesmaids, Neighbors, Freaks & Geeks, Funny People). No soundtrack album has been announced. Daddy’s Home follows a mild-mannered radio executive who strives to become the best stepdad to his wife’s two kids, but complications ensue when their freeloading real father arrives.. Also opening wide is the drama Concussion written and directed by Peter Landesman and starring Will Smith, Alec Baldwin, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Paul Reiser, Luke Wilson, Arliss Howard and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. James Newton Howard (The Hunger Games, Maleficent, King Kong, Signs, The Sixth Sense) has composed the film’s original music. ‘The Hateful Eight’ Soundtrack Preview
The Weinstein Company has published the opening track from Quentin Tarantino’s western The Hateful Eight. The track, entitled L’Ultima Diligenza di Red Rock, is written by the film’s composer Ennio Morricone (Once Upon a Time in the West, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, The Untouchables, The Mission). As previously reported, Decca Records will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the songs from the film this Friday, December 18. Visit Amazon to pre-order the CD. The Hateful Eight starring Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Walton Goggins, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern, Demian Bichir and Channing Tatum will be released in select cities in a special roadshow version on December 25 by the Weinstein Company, before expanding nationwide on December 31.

Quentin Tarantino revealed during a panel today at Comic-Con in San Diego that Ennio Morricone is currently composing the music for the director’s upcoming western The Hateful Eight. The film stars Channing Tatum, Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Demian Bichir, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Walton Goggins, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern, James Parks, Dana Gourrier and Zoe Bell. The movie written and directed by Tarantino is set on a wintry Wyoming landscape as a storm overtakes a stagecoach on a mountainside stopover.
