Ennio Morricone Wins BAFTA Award for ‘The Hateful Eight’
Ennio Morricone has received his sixth BAFTA Award for his score for Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight in the Original Music category. Morricone previously won the BAFTA Award for Days of Heaven, Once Upon a Time in America, The Mission, The Untouchables and Cinema Paradiso. He was nominated alongside Thomas Newman (Bridge of Spies), Johann Johannsson (Sicario), Ryuichi Sakamoto & Alva Noto (The Revenant) and John Williams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens).
Alexandre Desplat Wins BAFTA Award for ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’
Alexandre Desplat has received his second BAFTA Award for his score for Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel in the Original Music category. The composer accepted the award in person at the British Academy Film Awards ceremony at the Royal Opera House in London. Desplat previously won the BAFTA Award in 2011 for The King’s Speech and was nominated five more times. He was nominated alongside Antonio Sanchez (Birdman), Hans Zimmer (Interstellar), Johann Johannsson (The Theory of Everything) and Mica Levi (Under the Skin). The composer is also up for an Academy Award for the score and is also nominated for his music for The Imitation Game.
Thomas Newman Wins BAFTA for ‘Skyfall’
Thomas Newman has received his second BAFTA for his score for the latest James Bond film Skyfall directed by Sam Mendes and starring Daniel Craig in the Original Music category. Newman accepted the award in person at the awards ceremony at the Royal Opera House in London. He was nominated alongside Dario Marianelli (Anna Karenina), Alexandre Desplat (Argo), Mychael Danna (Life of Pi) and John Williams (Lincoln). The composer has previously received the award for his music for American Beauty in 2000, his first collaboration with Mendes. Newman is also up for an Academy Award for his Skyfall score.
