Alexandre Destplat has won his first Academy Award in the Best Original Score category for his music for Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel. The composer was previously nominated six time before and also received another nod this year for his score for The Imitation Game. The other contenders in the category were Johann Johannsspn (The Theory of Everything), Hans Zimmer (Interstellar) and Gary Yershon (Mr. Turner). All four nominated composers were in attendance at the awards ceremony.

Alexandre Desplat Wins Grammy Award for ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’
Alexandre Desplat has won the Grammy Award for his music for Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel in the Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media category. He previously won a Grammy for his score for Tom Hooper’s The King’s Speech. The other nominated composers in the category included Christophe Beck (Frozen), Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross (Gone Girl), Steven Price (Gravity) and Thomas Newman (Saving Mr. Banks). In the Best Song Written For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media, Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez won the award for the song Frozen from Disney’s hit feature Frozen. In the Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for Visual Media category, the soundtrack album for Frozen, which features the film’s songs and the score composed by Christophe Beck, released by Walt Disney Records was honored with a Grammy award.

Alexandre Desplat has received his second BAFTA Award for his score for Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel in the Original Music category. The composer accepted the award in person at the British Academy Film Awards ceremony at the Royal Opera House in London. Desplat previously won the BAFTA Award in 2011 for The King’s Speech and was nominated five more times. He was nominated alongside Antonio Sanchez (Birdman), Hans Zimmer (Interstellar), Johann Johannsson (The Theory of Everything) and Mica Levi (Under the Skin). The composer is also up for an Academy Award for the score and is also nominated for his music for The Imitation Game.

Two new movies are opening wide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the action adventure epic 300: Rise of an Empire directed by Noam Murro and starring Sullivan Stapleton, Rodrigo Santoro, Eva Green, Callan Mulvey, Jack O’Connell and Lena Headey. The film’s original music is compowed by Junkie XL (Divergent, Paranoia). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. Also opening wide is DreamWorks Animation’s Mr. Peabody & Sherman directed by Rob Minkoff and featuring the voice talent of Ty Burrell, Max Charles, Leslie Mann, Stanley Tucci, Allison Janney, Ariel Winter, Stephen Colbert, Patrick Warburton, Mel Brooks, Lake Bell, Zach Callison and Dennis Haysbert. Danny Elfman (Spider-Man, Batman, Men in Black) has composed the film’s original music. Relativity Music Group has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as John Lennon’s Beautiful Boy and the original song Way Back When by Grizfolk. ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’ Soundtrack Details
ABKCO Records will release the official soundtrack album for Wes Anderson’s comedy The Grand Budapest Hotel. The album features the film’s original music composed by Alexandre Desplat (The King’s Speech, Argo, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) who previously collaborated with the director on The Fantastic Mr. Fox and Moonrise Kingdom. Also included are a number of folk music tracks used in the movie. The soundtrack will be released on March 4, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The Grand Budapest Hotel is written and directed by Anderson and stars Ralph Fiennes, Tony Revolori, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, Jason Schwartzman, Jude Law, Tilda Swinton, Bill Murray, Owen Wilson and Adrien Brody. The movie recounts the adventures of a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel between the wars and the lobby boy who becomes his most trusted friend.
Alexandre Desplat to Reunite with Wes Anderson on ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’
Alexandre Desplat revealed in a recent interview with RedCarpetNewsTV at the London premiere of Dreamworks’s Animation’s Rise of the Guardians that he will be reuniting with director Wes Anderson on his next film The Grand Budapest Hotel. Ralph Fiennes, Jude Law, Bill Murray, Owen Wilson and Saoirse Ronan are attached to star in the film produced by Anderson, Scott Rudin (No Country for Old Men, The Social Network), Steven Rales and Jeremy Dawson (Moonrise Kingdom). The movie is set to start shooting in January of next year. The project will mark the composer’s third collaboration with the director following The Fantastic Mr. Fox and this year’s Moonrise Kingdom.
