He previously received the award for his music from Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer in 2024. The other composers nominated in the category were Hans Zimmer (F1), Alexandre Desplat (Frankenstein), Max Richter (Hamnet), Daniel Lopatin (Marty Supreme) and Jonny Greenwood (One Battle After Another).

He previously won the award back in 2001 for his scores for Gladiator, Mission: Impossible 2 and The Road to El Dorado and was nominated multiple other times. Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross & Jon Batiste were honored with the Critics’ Choice Award in the Best Score category for their music for Pixar’s animated movie Soul at tonight’s virtual 26th Critics’ Choice Awards. Reznor & Ross previously won the award in 2011 for their score for David Fincher’s The Social Network and were also nominated this year for their work on Fincher’s Mank. The other composers nominated in the category were Ludwig Göransson for Tenet, James Newton Howard for News of the World, Alexandre Desplat for The Midnight Sky and Emile Mosseri for Minari.
