Dragon’s Domain Records has released a new soundtrack album for the 1990 movie adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s novel The Handmaid’s Tale directed by Volker Schlöndorff and starring Natasha Richardson, Faye Dunaway, Aidan Quinn, Elizabeth McGovern, Victoria Tennant and Robert Duvall. The 35th Anniversary Edition features the newly remastered original score composed by Academy Award winner Ryuichi Sakamoto (The Last Emperor, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, The Revenant, Little Buddha, The Sheltering Sky, Snake Eyes). The CD is now available to order on the label’s official website, where you can also check out the track list and listen to audio samples. GNP Crescendo has previously released the original 1990 soundtrack album.

Remastered ‘High Heels’ Soundtrack Album Announced
Quartet Records has announced a new soundtrack album for the 1991 Spanish drama High Heels (Tacones Lejanos) written and directed by Pedro Almodóvar and starring Victoria Abril, Marisa Paredes and Miguel Bosé. The album features the newly remastered original score from the film composed by Academy Award winner Ryuichi Sakamoto (The Last Emperor, The Revenant, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, Little Buddha, Snake Eyes) The soundtrack is now available to order as a CD and limited edition vinyl on the label’s official website, where you can also check out the full album details and listen to audio samples. Antilles & Island Records have previously released the original soundtrack album on CD back in 1992 and a digital version is now also available.

Already playing in theaters nationwide since this past Wednesday is the animated musical comedy Wish directed by Chris Buck & Fawn Veerasunthorn and starring Ariana DeBose, Chris Pine, Angelique Cabral, Victor Garber, Alan Tudyk, Natasha Rothwell, Harvey Guillén, Evan Peters and Ramy Youseff. The film’s original songs are written by Julia Michaels & Benjamin Rice and the movie’s original score is composed by Dave Metzger (Brother Bear 2, Tarzan & Jane). Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs last week and has also released a separate deluxe edition featuring both songs and score on Wednesday. Also playing in theaters nationwide since Wednesday is the historical drama Napoleon directed by Ridley Scott and starring Joaquin Phoenix, Vanessa Kirby, Tahar Rahim, Edouard Philipponnat, Rupert Everett, Catherine Walker and Ludivine Sagnier. Martin Phipps (The Crown, Victoria, Woman in Gold, The Honourable Woman, War & Peace, The Aftermath) has composed the film’s original music. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. Soundtrack Album for Hirokazu Kore-eda’s ‘Monster’ Released
Milan Records has released a soundtrack album for the Japanese drama Monster. The album features the music from the film composed by Ryuichi Sakamoto (The Last Emperor, The Revenant, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, Little Buddha, Snake Eyes), including two original pieces, which the late composer wrote for the project, as well as several tracks from his solo albums. The soundtrack is now available to stream/download on Amazon and any other major digital music services. A CD and vinyl edition was released in Japan earlier this year (click here to order both versions as an import). Listen to Sakamoto’s two original tracks from the film below. Monster is directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda, written by Yuji Sakamoto and stars Sakura Ando, Eita Nagayama, Hinata Hiragi, Soya Kurokawa and Yuko Tanaka. The movie follows a mother who discovers that a teacher’s bullying is behind her young son’s sudden strange behavior.
Expanded and Remastered ‘Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights’ Soundtrack Album Announced
La-La Land Records has announced a new soundtrack album for the 1992 drama Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights directed by Peter Kosminsky and starring Ralph Fiennes, Juliette Binoche, Jeremy Northam, Sophie Ward, Simon Shepherd and Janet McTeer. The album features the remastered original score from the film composed by Academy Award winner Ryuichi Sakamoto (The Last Emperor, Little Buddha, The Revenant Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, Snake Eyes, Femme Fatale), including previously unreleased music. The CD, which is limited to 1,000 copies, will be available to order on the label’s official website at noon today.
Ryuichi Sakamoto (1952 – 2023)
Ryuichi Sakamoto has passed away this past Tuesday, March 28, at age 71. The Japanese composer has written dozens of scores for a wide range of international films since the early 1980s. He won an Academy Award, Golden Globe and Grammy Award for his music for Bernardo Bertolucci’s 1987 feature The Last Emperor (shared with David Byrne & Cong Su). He was also Grammy-nominated for his scores for Bertolucci’s Little Buddha and Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s The Revenant (with Alva Noto).
Ryuichi Sakamoto’s ‘Travesía’ Album Announced
Milan Records has announced Travesía, a new album featuring music by composer Ryuichi Sakamoto (The Last Emperor, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, Little Buddha, Femme Fatale, Snake Eyes), curated by five-time Academy Award-winning filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu (Birdman, Babel, 21 Grams, Amores Perros, Bardo, Biutiful). The album features twenty tracks handpicked by Iñárritu, including selections of the Sakamoto’s solo work such as Thousand Knives, the title track of the musician’s 1978 debut album. Also included is a new, never-before-heard mix of The Revenant Main Theme (written for Iñárritu’s 2015 feature) by Sakamoto’s long-time collaborator Alva Noto. ‘Snake Eyes’ Digital Soundtrack Album Released
Hollywood Records has released a digital version of the soundtrack album for the 1998 thriller Snake Eyes directed by Brian De Palma and starring Nicolas Cage, Gary Sinise, Carla Gugino, Stan Shaw, John Heard, Joel Fabiani, Kevin Dunn and Luis Guzmán. The album features the original score from the Paramount Pictures and Touchstone Pictures production composed by Academy Award winner Ryuichi Sakamoto (The Last Emperor, The Revenant, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, Little Buddha, Femme Fatale). Gaga Corporation announced today that Ryuichi Sakamoto (The Last Emperor, The Revenant, Little Buddha, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, Snake Eyes) is set to score the upcoming Japanese drama Monster (Kaibutsu). The film is directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda (Shoplifters, The Truth, Broker) and stars Sakura Ando, Nagayama Eita, Mitsuki Takahata, Akihiro Kakuta, Yuko Tanaka, Shido Nakamura, Soya Kurokawa and Hinata Hiiragi. No story details have been announced yet.
Details for Netflix’s ‘Exception’ Soundtrack Album Revealed
The full details of the soundtrack album for the Netflix anime series exception have been revealed. The album features the show’s original music composed by Academy Award winner Ryuichi Sakamoto (The Last Emperor, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, The Revenant, Little Buddha, The Sheltering Sky, Femme Fatale). The soundtrack will be released digitally this Friday, October 14 by Milan Records and will be available to stream/download on Amazon and any other major digital music services. Two first tracks have already been released last month. exception is directed by Yuzo Sato, written by Hirotaka Adachi and follows a scouting team who is sent to search for a planet suitable for terraforming after humanity is forced to move its population to another galaxy.
