Already playing in theaters nationwide since this past Wednesday is the animated musical comedy Wish directed by Chris Buck & Fawn Veerasunthorn and starring Ariana DeBose, Chris Pine, Angelique Cabral, Victor Garber, Alan Tudyk, Natasha Rothwell, Harvey Guillén, Evan Peters and Ramy Youseff. The film’s original songs are written by Julia Michaels & Benjamin Rice and the movie’s original score is composed by Dave Metzger (Brother Bear 2Tarzan & Jane). Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs last week and has also released a separate deluxe edition featuring both songs and score on Wednesday. Also playing in theaters nationwide since Wednesday is the historical drama Napoleon directed by Ridley Scott and starring Joaquin Phoenix, Vanessa Kirby, Tahar Rahim, Edouard Philipponnat, Rupert Everett, Catherine Walker and Ludivine Sagnier. Martin Phipps (The Crown, Victoria, Woman in Gold, The Honourable Woman, War & Peace, The Aftermath) has composed the film’s original music. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. Opening in select theaters this week before premiering on December 20 on Netflix is the biographical drama Maestro co-written and directed by Bradley Cooper and starring Cooper himself, Carey Mulligan, Matt Bomer, Maya Hawke, Sarah Silverman and Josh Hamilton. The film features music composed by Leonard Bernstein, most of which has been newly recorded. Deutsche Grammophon has released a soundtrack album featuring music by Bernstein digitally last week. Opening in New York today before expanding to more U.S. markets over the next couple of weeks is the Japanese drama Monster directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda and starring Sakura Ando, Eita Nagayama, Soya Kurokawa, Hinata Hiragi and Yuko Tanaka. Ryuichi Sakamoto (The Last EmperorThe RevenantLittle Buddha, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, Snake Eyes) has composed the film’s original music. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, including two original tracks written for the film and other pieces from his solo albums. Also opening in select theaters this week before premiering on December 8 on Netflix is the thriller Leave the World Behind written and directed by Sam Esmail and starring Julia Roberts, Ethan Hawke, Mahershala Ali, Myha’la, Kevin Bacon, Farrah Mackenzie and Charlie Evans. The film’s original music is composed by Mac Quayle (Mr. Robot, Feud: Betty and Joan, American Horror StoryAmerican Crime StoryThe Politician). Opening in select theaters today before premiering on Prime Video next Friday, December 1, is the holiday family comedy Candy Cane Lane directed by Reginald Hudlin and starring Eddie Murphy, Tracee Ellis Ross, Jillian Bell, Thaddeus J. Mixson, Ken Marino, Robin Thede, Nick Offerman, Riki Lindhome and Stephen Tobolowsky. Marcus Miller (Boomerang, Everybody Hates Chris, Marshall The BrothersI Think I Love My Wife) has composed the film’s original score. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score will be coming out next week. Already out now is an original song by Raphael Saadiq & Kelli-Leigh (click here to listen to the track) and two covers of Christmas songs by Chlöe (click here for more information).

Also opening in select theaters today before premiering on Wednesday, November 29, is the documentary American Symphony directed by Matthew Heineman about the year in the life of musician/composer Jon Batiste (Soul, She Ball, The First Wave) as he prepares his symphony. The film’s original music is composed by Batiste himself who also contributed the original end credits song It Never Went Away. Verve & Interscope Records have released the song today.
