Composer Mac Quayle (American Horror Story, Feud: Betty and Joan, American Crime Story, The Politician, Ratched) is reuniting with writer/director Sam Esmail (Homecoming, Comet) on the upcoming Netflix original film Leave the World Behind. The movie is written and directed by Esmail and stars Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali, Ethan Hawke, Kevin Bacon, Myha’la, Farrah Mackenzie and Charlie Evans. The thriller is based on the novel of the same title by Rumaan Alam and follows a family whose vacation is upended when two strangers arrive at night, seeking refuge from a cyberattack that grows more terrifying by the minute. Esmail & Roberts are also producing the project with Chad Hamilton (Angelyne, The Resort), Lisa Gillan (Jesus Henry Christ) and Marisa Yeres Gill (The Last Thing He Told Me). Barack & Michelle Obama serve as executive producers. Quayle has previously collaborated with Esmail on USA’s Mr. Robot, for which he received his first Emmy Award, and also composed the music for the Esmail-produced Starz series Gaslit. Leave the World Behind will premiere on December 8, 2023 on Netflix.
Quayle has also recently been scoring the twelfth season of FX’s American Horror Story, entitled Delicate, which just premiered last week.
