Hans Zimmer has won his fifth Grammy Award for his score from Dune Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two in the Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media category at today’s 67th Annual Grammy Awards Premiere Ceremony in Los Angeles. He was previously honored with a Grammy in the same category for his music for Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight. Jon Batiste & Dan Wilson received the award for the original song It Never Went Away from the documentary American Symphony in the Best Song Written For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media category.

Weekly Film Music Roundup (November 24, 2023)
Already playing in theaters nationwide since this past Wednesday is the animated musical comedy Wish directed by Chris Buck & Fawn Veerasunthorn and starring Ariana DeBose, Chris Pine, Angelique Cabral, Victor Garber, Alan Tudyk, Natasha Rothwell, Harvey Guillén, Evan Peters and Ramy Youseff. The film’s original songs are written by Julia Michaels & Benjamin Rice and the movie’s original score is composed by Dave Metzger (Brother Bear 2, Tarzan & Jane). Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs last week and has also released a separate deluxe edition featuring both songs and score on Wednesday. Also playing in theaters nationwide since Wednesday is the historical drama Napoleon directed by Ridley Scott and starring Joaquin Phoenix, Vanessa Kirby, Tahar Rahim, Edouard Philipponnat, Rupert Everett, Catherine Walker and Ludivine Sagnier. Martin Phipps (The Crown, Victoria, Woman in Gold, The Honourable Woman, War & Peace, The Aftermath) has composed the film’s original music. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. ‘Maestro’ Soundtrack Album Details
Deutsche Grammophon will release the official soundtrack album for the Netflix original film Maestro. The album features the music from the biographical drama composed by Leonard Bernstein and performed by the London Symphony Orchestra, recorded in early 2023 at AIR Studios in London under the direction of Yannick Nezet-Seguin (who served as director/lead actor Bradley Cooper’s conducting consultant). The soundtrack will be released digitally on November 17 and physically (on CD and vinyl) on December 1. A first track (the Finale of Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 “Resurrection”, conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin and Bradley Cooper) is being released this week and can also be checked out below. Maestro is co-written and directed by Cooper and also stars Carey Mulligan, Matt Bomer, Sarah Silverman, Maya Hawke and Josh Hamilton.
‘Maestro’ to Feature Music by Craig Leon
Bow Street Films has announced that Craig Leon will be writing the music for the upcoming drama Maestro. The film based on a novel by Peter Goldsworthy is directed by Catherine Jarvis and is set to star Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, In the Heart of the Sea). He will be playing a pianist who moves to an exotic outpost of 1960′s Northern Australia and is forced to learn from a Viennese refugee with a shadowed past, known to the locals as Maestro. Daniel Harvey is producing the project with Joe Jenckes (Margin Call, Kill Your Darlings) and David Dickson. The music will also feature recordings performed by famed pianist Lang Lang and a soundtrack album will be released by Deutsche Grammophon/Universal. Leon is best known as a record producer who worked with such artists as The Ramones and Blondie.
