Deutsche Grammophon has released The Disney Book, a new album featuring classic Disney songs reimagined by Grammy Award-nominated pianist Lang Lang. Among the titles included are songs from Beauty and the Beast, Frozen, The Jungle Book, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, The Lion King, Mary Poppins and Aladdin. Lang’s collaborators featured on the release include Andrea Bocelli who performs the Italian version of Phil Collins’ You’ll Be in My Heart from Tarzan, Sebastián Yatra who performs the Lin Manuel-Miranda-penned Dos Oruguitas from Encanto and Jon Batiste who performs his song It’s All Right from Pixar’s Soul. The Disney Book is now available in two different version: the 14-track regular edition and a 28-track deluxe edition. Shigeru Umebayashi Scoring ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny’
Shigeru Umebayashi has composed the music for the martial arts epic Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny. The composer of such films as House of Flying Daggers, The Grandmaster and In the Mood for Love collaborated with Lang Lang who performs piano solos on the score. The pianist was previously featured soloist on such movies as The Painted Veil, My Week with Marilyn and this year’s Kung Fu Panda 3. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny is directed by Yuen Wo-Ping (Tai Chi Master) and stars Michelle Yeoh who returns as Yu Shu-Lien, as well as Donnie Yen, Harry Shum, Jr., Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Jason Scott Lee, Eugenia Yuan and Roger Yuan.
‘Coming Home’ Soundtrack Details
Sony Classical will release a soundtrack album for Zhang Yimou’s romantic drama Coming Home. The album features the film’s original music composed by Qigang Chen who previously scored the director’s features The Flowers of War and Under the Hawthorne Tree. The music was recorded with the China Philharmonic Orchestra and features piano solos by Lang Lang. The soundtrack will be released overseas on June 13, 2014. No word yet on a domestic release date. Check out audio clips after the jump. Coming Home directed by Yimou (Hero, House of Flying Daggers) stars Chen Daoming, Gong Li, Zhang Huiwen, Guo Tao, Liu Peiqi, Zu Feng and Yan Ni. The movie inspired by Yan Geling’s The Criminal Yu Yanshi chronicles the journey of a Chinese dissident from the 1920′s to the 1990′s. The drama recently world premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.
‘Maestro’ to Feature Music by Craig Leon
Bow Street Films has announced that Craig Leon will be writing the music for the upcoming drama Maestro. The film based on a novel by Peter Goldsworthy is directed by Catherine Jarvis and is set to star Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, In the Heart of the Sea). He will be playing a pianist who moves to an exotic outpost of 1960′s Northern Australia and is forced to learn from a Viennese refugee with a shadowed past, known to the locals as Maestro. Daniel Harvey is producing the project with Joe Jenckes (Margin Call, Kill Your Darlings) and David Dickson. The music will also feature recordings performed by famed pianist Lang Lang and a soundtrack album will be released by Deutsche Grammophon/Universal. Leon is best known as a record producer who worked with such artists as The Ramones and Blondie.
‘My Week with Marilyn’ Soundtrack Announced
Sony Classical has announced a soundtrack release for the drama My Week with Marilyn. The album includes the original score by Conrad Pope. Alexandre Desplat has written Marilyn’s Theme for the film and pianist Lang Lang is performing on the score. Also featured on the album are several period songs by Nat King Cole, a medley of When Love Goes Wrong and Heat Wave, as well as the end title song That Old Black Magic performed by lead actress Michelle Williams. Audio clips are available after the jump. The album will be released digitally on November 1, 2011 on Amazon and iTunes and a physical release is planned for later in the month. ‘A Dangerous Method’ Soundtrack Details
Sony Classical will be releasing the soundtrack for David Cronenberg’s new thriller A Dangerous Method. The album features the original score from the movie by composer Howard Shore, as well as Richard Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll performed by Lang Lang. The soundtrack will be released in the UK on September 16, 2011. A release in the US is expected closer to the movie’s domestic opening in LA and New York on November 23. (UPDATE, November 2011): The album is now scheduled for a domestic release on November 21 and can be pre-ordered on Amazon. A Dangerous Method starring Viggo Mortensen, Keira Knightley, Michael Fassbender and Vincent Cassell chronicles the intense relationship between Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud and the birth of psychoanalyis. The movie premiered last week at the Venice Film Festival.
Ilan Eshkeri scores Ralph Fiennes’ Coriolanus
Ilan Eshkeri recently recorded the score for the upcoming drama Coriolanus. The movie marks the directorial debut of actor Ralph Fiennes who also stars in the movie alongside Gerard Butler, Vanessa Redgrave and Brian Cox. In the movie based on Shakespeare’s play adapted by Oscar nominated screenwriter John Logan (Gladiator, The Last Samurai, The Aviator), a banished hero of Rome allies with a sworn enemy to take his revenge on the city. According to the composer’s Facebook page, the score is in a minimalist contemporary style. No release date has been set yet for Coriolanus, but the movie is expected to open next year.
